- Global681918508191 contributionWe did the Hobbiton/Waitomo Caves combo tour and it was so good! Matt was our driver and he was wonderful. Super easy to chat to, great commentary and he got to know everyone on the tour and was so attentive to their needs. For us, we are going on to tour the South Island on our own and he gave us so many recommendations, Thank you Matt! Hobbiton was great, such a cool place to visit and the drink at the end was so tasty. The caves are beautiful, but our tour guide there was not great (nothing to do with Auckland Scenic). Lunch is a cool spot with nice food and a kiwi vine round the back. On the way back to Auckland we stopped at a little shop with honey tasting which was so nice. - Maureen FSolihull, UK1 contributionFabulous trip. Our lovely driver and guide couldn’t have been more helpful and informative. Arrived at the beach during a pretty wet time but waterproofs were supplied enabling us all to experience a pretty wonderful location.

The Waitomo caves are a unique place, even though we've done cave trips before. Our local guide was very passionate about the place & gave us plenty of information about the history & environment. A very memorable visit, though you aren’t allowed to take any pictures in the caves.
On to Rotarua, with a brief stop at Arapuni Dam & Suspension Bridge (not for the faint-hearted!).
Quick lunch at Te Puia cafe before a 90 minute guided tour of the geysers, kiwi conservation centre (only real chance to see kiwis) & Maori culture centre. Our guide obviously enjoyed his role & was very knowledgeable about the place.
Quick tour of Rotorua before heading back to the city.
Our guide & driver, Matt was brilliant, giving us plenty of local info along the way, as well as letting us snooze a bit too! Van was a very comfy Mercedes.

Not too big, so we could walk through in an hour or two and not be overwhelmed. The informative talk about penguins was good but there were a lot of very noisy schoolchildren who were yelling and screaming which spoiled that a bit. I think the children should have been asked to be quiet or moved somewhere else where there was not a presentation happening. But it was a good visit. They set a great tone for the tour which encouraged a lot of friendly bantering amongst the participants. The places we visited were beautiful. We learned so much. Lunch was simple and delicious. He took us there and back on 2 different routes, which was very nice. Bathroom breaks were well-scheduled. We were on a bit of a time schedule, and he got us back to our hotel right on time. Whether it’s the city, rainforest or beach, this tour gives you a taste of NZ. Wayne was our first driver and he had a wealth of knowledge on the history and culture of NZ. His dad jokes were hilarious. For the second half of the day, which covers the rainforest & Piha Beach, we had Annie and Dustin as our guide and driver. They were just as sweet, warm and knowledgeable. They were passionate about the flora and fauna.
