What travellers are saying
- Chris HassiotisCentral Macedonia, Greece38 contributionsIt is a special landscape, which you must enjoy if you ever visit Norway! And it is certain that only then will you be able to perceive the greatness of nature, the uniqueness of the landscape, but also the joy of being there and experiencing this spectacle that cannot leave anyone unmoved!Written 17 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CTSColombo, Sri Lanka42 contributionsOne of the most beautiful fjords in norway without a doubt. We visited geiranger for 3 days and stayed at a cost cabin. One of the main attractions was to go on a sightseeing cruise which was 90mins. We were able to hopoff from the famous farm and do a quick hike and get back on the next cruise with the same ticket. Plenty of places to visit and we arrived at geirange through trollstigen which was an awesome driveWritten 17 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Georgia MLincoln, UK270 contributionsUndoubtedly beautiful waterfall (or waterfalls) but due to it being late summer and a lack of rain they were not flowing a great deal. I’m pleased I got to see them as our ship passed, but I’m also pleased I didn’t pay hundreds of pounds to see them.Written 28 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TeWeHelsinki, Finland1,109 contributionsBeautiful views of the Geiranger village under the viewpoint as well as the mountains surrounding it.Written 10 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Allan & Amy TEdmonton, Canada352 contributionsWe were on a cruise and on that day there were three cruise ships docking
As a result, there are lots of tourists by the pier. Amazingly I discover the wifi here is quite fast as lots of tourists are sitting on the waterfront doing their usual messaging. This is one of the Photoshop stops for me!!
The hike to the Hotel Union is a short one approximately 20 minutes along a winding road. There is an alternate way if you take the uneven unpaved road up to a small church with a cemetery nearby, but the view is amazing,!
You have to look out for oncoming traffic especially big buses, cars bicycles, etc if you decided to walk along the road
When you reach the Hotel Union there is a walkway across a waterfall. There is another 3.0 km hike further up to another waterfall which we did not take. We took the stairs along the river and realized is a deep decline down to a campground by the waterfront. As a result, we went back to the original route. This is not desirable hiking for patients with knees and mobility problems you have to know your physical limit
The scenery is beautiful but the serenity is spoiled by the presence of too many touristsWritten 19 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The waterfall is great and you can walk just behind it. From the waterfront at Geiranger you follow the path up to the Flydalsjuvet first (the viewpoint on the snakey road above the town). Don’t turn right on the final high road towards the Utiksikten Hotel/viewpoint but left towards Hole and Westeras Farm. This is about half way. The paths are then well marked towards the Storesetterfossen. Recommended.Written 27 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - TeWeHelsinki, Finland1,109 contributionsNice views of Geiranger and surroundings. The viewing point is easily accessible by car as it is right by the road.Written 10 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Greg GAustin, TX409 contributionsThis hike was the highlight of our visit to Geiranger. We took a fjord tour that stopped at Skagefla and hiked up for an hour. The hike back to almost an hour because the trail became wet and muddy and it was very slow going. This is a difficult hike. The views at the top were outstanding and we had a picnic lunch and then hiked back to trail head and waited for the boat. The walk back to Geiranger was an additional 8 km and we did not choose to do that.Written 1 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - JLCALima, Peru69 contributionsDefinitely a great place to visit. You want walk or take a Toor in the center of the town. The landscape are really outstanding and you really can be in touch with the nature.Written 11 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HappyDiner80Brighton and Hove, UK89 contributionsAn absolute highlight of my trip to Norway. Such a beautiful village, the waterfall is glorious. If you want to walk to the top bridge, do take the left hand path (by the church) for a gentle climb. I walked up the right hand side which was extremely steep!
This is a really peaceful village - you can take a bus tour to see the local area, however, just being able to walk around Hellesylt was lovely. There is a Co-Op shop where you can buy supplies and also log on to Wi-Fi.Written 27 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Plenty of places to stop and look out over the fjord.Written 23 July 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Neil03091947Alesund, Norway751 contributionsAfter having several trips to Stranda mountain this year, today was the perfect day, warm air and clouds, just hanging like small balls of cotton wool. Clear skies and perfect lunch, with desert up on the mountain bar, the staff were very professional and well prepared on this very busy day.
I will be back.Written 2 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
