Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Zaraysk Kremlin is a rectangular fortified citadel, built at the behest of Vasili III of Moscow between 1528 and 1531. Just two years after completion in 1531, the new stone-walled kremlin found itself under attack from Crimean Tartars. There was another attack in 1541 from forces under the Crimean khan Sahib Giray, which was beaten off by Nazar Glebov. Between 1987 and 1993 the complex benefited from extensive restoration work, commissioned by the Moscow-based Department for Cultural Assets, but the restoration work remains incomplete following the withdrawal of funding. In 1998 a new "Museum of the Kremlin of Zaraysk" was established, containing a range of artefacts from Russia, western Europe, China and Japan. Ok, so that' the history, but the reality is even better. Walking through this mini Kremlin, you are taken back to another time of Tsars and Monks and Monestaries, under attack from the Tatar hordes trying to breach old Moscow. The grounds are immaculated kept, the structures are well preserved and immaculately restored. The museum is excellent I must say, the exhibits well presented and in detail. The furniture and art rooms are very interesting. They also cover the pre-history of the paleolithic period and they discovered 3 beautifully carved artifacts which range from 14,000 to 22,000 years old. I have attached the pictures. One is of a pregnant woman, another is of a bison, with amazing detail. A great diversion from Kolomna trip and not that far. Definitely put it on your schedule if you like Kremlins. (Forts)

Together with our friends we visited Zaraysk around a week ago. And this water tower was a perfect ending of our day. We could observe everywhere we have been to and it is alwayssuch a blust just to view nature after being an urban citizen.
Also was great to know that this tower was restaurated for the money of local businessmen and companies. This makes this place even more unique for me personally, when I realize this is the result of efforts of real people.
Separate "thank you" to Liza from Visit Zaraysk who was guiding us around the city and shared her stories.

I saw it several days ago, in early July, while driving through Zaraysk.
I had a couple of spare minutes and decided to take a look at that dam, which, I knew, was in the process of intensive renovation.
Well, it really was, albeit on the final stage. Earthworks were practically over, and people were getting ready for landscape design.
Thus, it may be effectively visited this August.

I visited it when I came to Zaraysk for business in September.
It's situated in that town's Kremlin. I stepped in, admired the icons, iconostasis, and chandeliers, and was somewhat puzzled to see absolutely no parishioners there.
There's a small wooden bell tower nearby (I'd rather call it a platform with a roof covering bells, however); the original one was blown up by commies in 1928.
A nice photo op. At a distance, of course, don't risk your health taking pictures inside.

It was even a greater challenge when I came there in February. Windy, icy, and extremely slippery outside.
Since the place was closed, I was only able to snap exterior photos.
    Perhaps in the summertime...

I drove down there in January after a visit to the Zaraysk Kremlin. The skiddy winter road (a street, actually) was a challenge even for my 4x4.
There were intensive reconstruction works raging nearby (they renovated the dam across the river), so surroundings looked pretty unwelcoming, even though snow-covered.
    Come in summer, please.

I paid tribute to those who died in the Battle of Zaraysk in September when I was in that town for business (I wouldn't call them soldiers, but rather warriors, by the way).
It nestles behind the blue and white Annunciation Church and constitutes a cross on top of a small earth mound and a sign explaining what that battle was about (in Russian, of course).
Still, I think it's an attraction for locals mostly.

I saw it in January when in Zaraysk on a business trip. It's situated on the Sovetskaya street, the main thoroughfare of the town.
Not an attraction for a foreign tourist.

I walked along the Sovetskaya street in January many times and surely passed that cathedral which is in the middle of it, opposite a WWII memorial.
I wouldn't call it that much of an attraction. There's been a museum in it in communist times, it's being transferred back to the Russian Orthodox church now and thus is on a sort of a transition stage.
To my mind, the best photo op is from its rear side, by the way.
