I appreciated that we took scenic routes and were able to see the countryside. Our tour guide Amethyst was very friendly and went out of her way to entertain and inform us. What an amazing way to experience the glow worm caves. - Bhan4 contributionsAbsolutely awesome! The experience was nothing short of magical, especially the breathtaking "milky way of glow worms." It was like stepping into another world, surrounded by these tiny, twinkling lights that felt almost surreal.
What made the experience even more special was being in a very small group, which allowed for a more intimate and personal adventure. It felt exclusive and peaceful, with no crowds to disrupt the tranquility of the environment.
The true highlight, however, was our guide. Their passion for the natural wonders we were exploring was evident in every word they spoke. They were not only knowledgeable but also incredibly attentive to everyone’s needs, making sure we all had the best experience possible.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a unique and unforgettable experience. Our guide (Wi ) was excellent , very knowledgeable and it was clear he was an experienced caver. He interacted in a way which interested people of all ages, he had a lovely sense of humour and was very accommodating to the range of fitness levels within the group. We had a great day and my friend from the UK was most impressed too. Our guide Huzefa was great, he’s very resourceful and he always made sure we were comfortable, he had water, snacks and was ready to assist us anytime.
The visit of the Maori village and of the caves were really interesting, we learned a lot and the guides were really nice as well.

- 10teresajGarden City, ID79 contributionsThis was a great experience! Our guide, Ama was so wonderful! She arrived promptly and was warm and welcoming. She shared lots of interesting information about the Māori culture and area as we travelled to the caves. We were given a lovely goodie bag when we settled in the car that contained a bottle of water (and there was more available onboard), cookies, tissues, snacks and a local favorite - L & P. The car was very comfortable and had onboard WiFi. Regarding the cave adventure, the Ruakuri was very informative and interesting. We learned alot and the guide was informative and helpful answering many, many questions. He also allowed ample time for pictures. The Waitomo Glowworm tour was much more touristy. The experience in the cave was very brief. The experience on the boat staring up at all the glowworms was amazing.
After the caves, we stopped at The Thirsty Weta Bar in Otorohanga and it was delicious!

Sharma exceeded all expectations!
We were on a tight schedule (last day of our trip, flight at 8pm), so he picked us up early, and even did an airport drop off (for a small fee). The tour had tons of flexibility, he offered to add or remove any stops we'd like, but we chose to go with his recommendations. He was a safe driver, and lovely company. He had lots of historical knowledge, fun facts, and a little bit of playfulness to round it out.
The locations we went to were stunning!! Beautiful water, gorgeous trees, beautiful views. It was also pretty accessible, we vary in ages but still could comfortably participate in every leg of the journey. We took lots of pictures, and Sharma also took pictures of/for us on his phone. Because this is a private tour, you have tons of flexibility on when to stop, when to eat etc. This is a steal at the price!
We are American, and were hesitant about driving ourselves because of the whole driving-on-the-other-side-of-the-road thing. I'm glad we had Sharma driving, the weather and some complicated roundabouts would have been quite tough for us to navigate. Plus its nice to just be a passenger and not have the added stress while on vacation.
I know there are limited reviews on this tour as of now, but don't hesitate! I'm so glad we did this, one of the highlights of our entire trip.
