Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- Q6097FX5 contributionsExcellent wave for surfing when it's on. It's generally a more peeling wave than the east strand. But I think the curvature of the bay is probably the reason. Generally it seems to peel better slightly towards the harbour.
It can be a matter of luck really to catch it on a good day. But it's more exposed than the east strand, so it'll still have waves even if the swell is e.g 2-4ft windswell. As long as the direction is right. Bringing e.g an 8ft Funboard is a safe bet in the summer months.
There seems to be more rips forming towards the left side of the beach near the rocks. Can be very powerful so be careful. If swimming, stay between lifeguard flags.
The east strand by comparison can produce big barrelling waves, steeper sandy beach, particularly in Autumn/Winter. But the East is definitely not as good as the west in smaller swells.
I think the east is slightly safer for swimming on. But swimmers should be aware that both become dangerous for swimming when the waves become larger, the rips will pull with a lot more force in Larger waves. Treat both these strands with respect. Know your limits.Written 10 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
