Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- JacquiWellington, New Zealand5 contributionsPretty drive from Paihia to get there but not too long in the car, about 20min.
The cave experience itself is amazing, even the teenagers enjoyed it!
Glow worms are really beautiful.
Did have trouble with people listening to the guide about turning the torches off which was annoying. Definitely don't take kids who are not comfortable with the dark...unpleasant for everyone.Written 23 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. There are some on the street side, but the cleaner ones are by the library. Surprising, no free wifi anyone around this area. There is not much else to see around this stop.Written 16 March 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- GaryandLesleyTravelAuckland Central, New Zealand7,751 contributionsThis site has been reimagined and now gives a far more detailed view of the landscape and a more detailed explanation of what occurred here. The looped walk from the carpark to the British position and onto the Pa site is about 1.8km long, undulating but not challenging. The Pa sites trenches and tunnels are still clearly visible some 180 years on. The road from the highway has also been upgraded, as has the carpark which now includes toilets. If you visited here years ago as we did it’s certainly worth another look now.Written 29 December 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - jpw67Columbus, OH35 contributionsNice view and with some imagination can see where the new visitor centre will someday welcome visitors. The model for the new building can be seen in the museum across the street (see my review for a photo of the model).Written 30 December 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DanaSwiftCanberra, Australia3 contributionsPre-booked a coach tour for 34 people of varying ages and interests. Darryl Meehan was our driver and he was fantastic, 10/10, would definitely recommend asking for him if you can. The price was amazing, worked out at just over NZ$30 per person. I liased with the company to arrange which sites to see and we ended up visiting: Kawiti glow worm caves, kawakawa, kerikeri, chocolate store/factory/cafe, honey store/farm, cheese factory/store, stone store, hemp house, rainbow waterfall, waitangi lookout. Darryl met us at the tender pier with his bus and dropped us back with plenty of time to spare. Definitely would recommend! We had the best day.Written 12 January 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Janice_travels_lushWhangarei, New Zealand189 contributionsA quaint train chuffing her way through the charming town of Kawakawa then on through the countryside. Views along the way of historic homes, estuary and forest. Also, links to a popular cycle trail.Written 27 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
