Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Walked from the gate car park, and took the light blue trail. About 2.5 hrs and the weather for us was an autumnal fine and dry, so no slipping a sliding, but you still need good shoes/boots and watch where you put your feet. Seeing so many people with children doing this was a bit of a leveller. It is challenging. You will work up a sweat. Take some water with you.., You cannot really get lost. The redwood grove is lovely. Views from top great..

What a lovely way to spend part of my Sunday strolling along and taking in the scenery. What a nice place to live with so many activities spread along the beach for both children and adults. Spend an hour here and it just unwinds your soul.

We go to Brookfields winery every time we go to Hawkes Bay, it’s our favourite!! I love the relaxed style tastings at your own pace and no pressure. The staff are super knowledgeable and passionate about the wine and just really lovely to have a chat to. We got to try the new Pinot Gris just bottled and it was delicious we had to buy a few bottles. Love supporting this amazing little winery that has been through tough times recently with Cyclone Gabrielle. Can’t wait to come visit again soon.

We have visited Birdwood over many years and each time there is more to see. Today we received outstanding service from a young man (from Bangladesh I believe) who not only has impeccable customer service attributes, but was also observant and noticed I'd left my phone behind on the table. I appreciated him following up with me, checking it was mine, then fetching it for me. The young woman behind the cafe till was also good value. Fortunately we'll have time to visit again before we return to Wellington

Nice selection of wines - available by the bottle or glass. We tasted several & enjoyed the all. The food provider is top-notch serving fresh delicious items in generous portions.

Side note: their lavender in the gardens outside is healthy & beautiful!

Great place to spend an afternoon!

We (a group of 4) visited and stayed 3 days at the end of February 2024. What a beautiful spot - our accommodation has top class - the restaurant was fantastic. Thanks to Vicki and her team for hosting us.

We LOVED the beautiful town. The history, culture was very exciting and it was a perfect honeymoon spot for a local wine!
    Cocktail fav: Lone star
    Dinner fav: Thirsty Whale
We enjoyed: Bluffs lookout, MGT, Sunken Gardens
Recommendation: Go to MGT and invest time looking at the earthquake information and then learn about the buildings and town.
Tip: Go on a Thurs-Sun when most of the cellar doors are open.

Had no idea what to expect when we arrived but was pleasantly surprised and we had an amazing time.

A great mix of old technology along with new exhibits. There was something of interest for each of the family.

I just loved it. I went there with my husband. We loved the track and mesmerising fall. Just wow. 🤩 we spent time with nature. It was so relaxing to see the falls.
Don’t go there if weather not permits.

We went here as part of a tour off the ship .
Not very big but well set out so easy to see everything .
Plenty of different type of fish as well as turtles, frogs. lizards, penguins and a Kiwi bird, as far as I can remember that is the first time I have seen a Kiwi Bird , after that we bought a Kiwi Bird key chain for one of the Grandsons to put on his school bag.
Well worth a visit if you like that sort of thing .
