Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Thomas VOakland, CA18,849 contributionsIf you want to go to the beach while you are in this lovely town, this is probably the one where you should direct yourself. It is in town, close to the center, easy to get to. And you get the beautiful views of the sea.Written 9 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Britt B2 contributionsSpectacular! What a surprise. I expected to kill an hour but this is a world class museum here in this tiny corner of the world… albeit one where the Greeks Normans Berbers Turks Romans all reined supreme at one time or another. Truly one of the great archaeological museums of the world. I even met the Director who was very informative and even gave me a coin so that I could get inside the Norman cloisters.Written 31 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Deborah BMarietta, GA499 contributionsThis is a sweet little church (not open) with STUNNING gardens and paths all around the outside area - it has simply gorgeous lookout points and places to take amazing photos. It’s a bit of an interesting drive to get there - make sure you have a small car and are skilled with driving in Italy! But the views are so great, and it’s very quiet and serene. Just go to look around and see some beautiful vistas.Written 10 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas VOakland, CA18,849 contributionsWe ran into a guy who said that he had seen so many Italian churches that he doubted if he could continue. But then he went on to say that this one was one that we could not miss. So we climbed a lot of steps and visited the big church on the hill and it was splendid, partially because of the great views of the sea and the rocks below.Written 8 January 2025This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - on_the_go_98765Tucson20,551 contributionsOn our bus trip, we did pass these white pumice mine locations and were told they are no longer functioning as mining enterprises. But they are quite an eye-opener, being so bright and at-odds with the general landscape of the area. So, what is pumice?
More so, it should be asked, what is it used for? Pumice is a volcanic product and historical eruptions have covered the area. Thus, were created the pumice deposits! Pumice is used for tanning hides, in building, as a coating, and as an abrasive. And then there are the health issues.
A nasty condition called "liparitiosis" describes the disease caused by inhaling pumice powder on Lipari. And the winds do blow.
Just as well there are no excursions to the pumice fields and mines. Our lives are short enough as it is.Written 17 November 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Our AirBnB was located on the Corso Vittorio Emanuele II, close to the ristorantes, shops and the port. We hired a car from Pit Stop Noleggio which gave us the freedom and flexibility to travel to some of the beautiful quiet beaches such as Canneto and Acquacalda, both of which are close to some great ristorantes. We went to Pianoconte, the birthplace of my grandparents. We visited the magnificent Quattroocchi with stunning views over to Vulcano. The Chiesa Vecchia di Quattropani also has fantastic views across the islands, as does the Osservatorio. Check out Lipari Castle - it has a museum and some interesting Roman sarcophagi.Written 7 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - CatherineGuildford, UK156 contributionsWe passed here as part of a walk on Lipari and were given an enthusiastic, guided tour in English completely free of charge. We were shown the thermal baths and were able to feel the hot water from the spring. There are quite a few display boards that were in English as well as Italian. An interesting stop in the middle of our walk.Written 6 October 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Zbigniew LWroclaw, Poland115 contributionsCalm, unspoiled, stony beach with very few tourists, without beach bars, loud music and umbrellas. Moderately difficult access from the road through a ravine (not recommended for seniors or small kids).Written 5 August 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Thomas VOakland, CA18,849 contributionsThis is one of only a few tourist things to do in the town. Climb up to the top of the hill, see the church and then walk along the walls of the castle, which was built by the Spaniards. The views of the sea are terrific.Written 30 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- NYC-TRAV-FAMNew York City, NY153 contributionsThere are only a few beaches in Lipari, all rocky, Canetto and Acquacalda being the best. This beach is down a treacherous very very steep and slippery dirt road, and once you get the bottom there is a beach club or very little public space to lay your belongings. IMHO not worth the trek here. Difficult to swim because of the rocky entrance. It is also called White beach but it’s not white.Written 3 July 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- msa23_2000Chino Hills, CA1,492 contributionsThe Marina is nice, it has the picturesque church and a handful of restaurants we enjoyed sitting and talking at. I preferred wandering the streets in the downtown more and thought the restaurant selections were better. But this is still a good place to pass some time.Written 15 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
