If you enjoy ancient history, this site is well worth the time. It requires some easy walking time, and if you go from one end to the other, you might want to make arrangements for a drive back to the start. Nevertheless, the temples and their setting are worth visiting.

The Valley of the Temples were fantastic. Lots to see and many of them were in good shape.
If you have a shuttle taking you and picking you up, make sure you are very clear with the directions for the location of the pick up. The signage is not very good (imagine that).

We stopped here on the way to Catania to break up our journey. It was boiling hot out and this was ideal if you want to visit the temples but not spend hours. This is one of the smaller sites but has parking and no queue at the ticket office. We had booked online with a booking service but I don't think that was really necessary.

A reasonably short walk around and a cafe at the halfway point was ideal. Lots of different sandwiches and arancini and then plenty of different ice cream flavours to cool you down.

Toilets at the cafe but no locks on the doors!

What an experience! Didn’t expect to find such a hidden gem in the heart of famous Valle dei Templi. The garden is so antique and has lots of exemplars of citrus plants and unique man made irrigation system. With the hot Sicilian sun it was such a pleasure to stay in the shade of the trees in the picturesque landscape. 10/10 recommend to visit!

This temple is only partially surviving but this does not detract from its present. It can be enjoyed from multiple angles and photo opportunities. The most interesting aspect for me was in its restoration and the story around one mans dedication to that end.

In front of the Temple of Concordia, you can admire the statue of Icarus, donated by the Polish sculptor Igor Mitoraj. The statue represents the Fall of Icarus, who disobeyed his father Daedalus, he flew too close to the sun, burned his wings of wax and fell into the Mediterranean. in this statue, as a result of the fall, the wings are broken. This is a modern piece of art but it nevertheless is superbly executed and fits in perfectly with its surroundings. It reminded me of that classic film Jason and the Argonauts and the mighty Talos!

Nice place, but be careful, there are two ways to go there, one is terrible ( we thougt we have to go back, really bad) and is the one recommended in google maps. The other path is ok.

This temple was used by the followers of Demeter and Persephone to celebrate the coming of spring. To the Greeks, the return of Persephone from the underworld symbolized the return of life in the spring. Each spring, as the earth returned to life, some Greeks and later the Romans observed a sacred ritual in which the story of Demeter and Persephone was enacted.

They would gather here to make offerings after entering through Portal #5.

According to the legend Persephone was the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, goddess of the earth. Hades, the brother of Zeus and god of the underworld, abducts the young goddess one day as she is gathering flowers by a stream.

Demeter goes in search of her daughter but is unable to find her. Demeter’s grief causes the earth to die—crops fail, and famine comes upon the land.

Zeus intervenes and commands Hades to return Persephone. Reluctant to release her, Hades forces Persephone to eat a pomegranate seed, food of the dead. As a result, she can spend only six months out of the year with her mother; the other six months she is destined to spend in the realm of Hades.

Fascinating visit of a traditional cart-maker's workshop, showing the art and artistry behind this Sicilian craft. We learned about the history of the painted cart and then saw how much work it takes to produce them, and the carts on display were magnificent! It's a short drive from the temples of Agrigento so is a great way to round out a day of culture.
