Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Bergen Railway line is worth taking for the amazing scenery alone. As we left Oslo, we were eventually treated with beautiful views of lakes, rivers and meadows. We then started to see snow in mid June as we climbed the mountains. We were also very excited when the conductor allowed those that wanted to get off in the village of Finse, the railway’s highest elevation. Even though we only had five minutes, we took pictures and threw a snowball. After five hours we disembarked in Myrdal for the Flam Railway. Our reserved round trip tickets were part of a Norway in a Nutshell touring package. The first ride was on a 5:30am train and it was an amazing experience. Then after spending several days exploring western Norway, we took the reverse trip on the evening train back to Oslo, arriving at 10:30pm. I would suggest bringing food onto the train since the cafe car has limited offerings. Unfortunately the cafe car is where we also experienced rude staff. The train was clean and we appreciated the reclining seats. Their plus seating is also available to reserve which would be good for families with small children but it didn’t look like the seating would adjust. The train has space for overhead carryons and luggage storage areas but they fill up fast. Traveling light will make it easier to maneuver on and off the train. I would definitely recommend the Bergen Railway to view the beauty of Norway!

The station seemed like it had pretty much everything you need as far as shops and restaurants. Finding the trains was pretty easy and the place is clean. I would like to comment on the Ruter transportation company, however, as getting the tickets for the Metro (T) was ridiculous. We went to the Metro station, thinking we could purchase tickets at terminals there. No, there are no terminals in the station. Then, we looked on the map to find a Ruter customer service point, found it and it was closed (and this was mid-day). We saw the big banner saying to download the app and purchase your tickets there. So, we downloaded the app and tried to get tickets, but it wouldn't allow us to complete the transaction. We went back to the main station terminal and to one of the very helpful information people and they told us we had to go to the Ruter customer service desk, outside the central train station, around the corner, with no signs pointing to it, other than a Ruter logo up on the tall tower. When we arrived there, the very nice staff person listened to our story and told us that we shouldn't have downloaded that app, we need a DIFFERENT Ruter app. She said to use the white logo on the red background app, not the red logo on the white background app, because that app DOESN'T WORK. Why would they advertise an app that doesn't work? Then, we got our tickets online with proper app and she told us that we also could have bought tickets at any of the multiple Narvesen stores. Well, THAT would have been good to know, as we passed three on our way to the tram. Very poor customer information.

These trains are now called XY (not NSB). The speed of the trains is a bit slow because of the topography but the service is excellent and the scenery is amazing. The whole experience is a delight. A neighbouring passenger lost her wallet. It was found and returned to her with minimum fuss.

We took a trip from Oslo to Myrdal (for an overnight trip to Flam). The train there was delayed by over an hour and a half, which limited our time to bike and enjoy Flam. Then on the way back, it was delayed by 20 minutes. Delays aside, we booked a compartment (a private room that seats up to 6 people), but for some reason, our train ticket shows a single standard seat that was already assigned to another passenger. Literally, in the same confirmation email, the receipt says 'compartment for 2' and the ticket says 'seat for 1' - what?? Anyway, after wandering the train to ask someone, they looked up our reservation and confirmed we were in compartment 5. We made our way over and it was already occupied by a family who also claims their ticket says compartment 5. We had to wander the train some more to find another attendant to ask. She wasn’t the most pleasant and indicated my ticket has the seat number. Yes, I already know that, but it’s not correct because we booked a compartment. She begrudgingly looked up my reservation, which also says compartment 5. After some walking around the train, she just gave us a random empty compartment. There were no apologies for the mix-up or the fact that their system screwed up the seating… Instead, she made it seem like we should have known somehow. To be further annoying, I went to get a cup of coffee, but the machine only filled it halfway, so I just topped it up with a bit of hot water (in the same cup). The cafe attendant saw and said I had to pay for the hot water. Almost $2 for maybe 100ml of hot water!! Other than that, the scenery was beautiful though. Norway is gorgeous, but their trains leave a lot to be desired (and I say this having been on Amtrak in America, which is arguably one of the worst railways lol).
