One of the highlights of the trip to Salzburg, the fort can be approached on foot as well as by funicular rail. The fort is huge and impressive. Well-maintained with good description of its various spots & history. Superb views from the top.

The Old Town Centre of Salzburg also known as the Altstadt, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. Its located on the left and right banks of the Salzach River.

Its one of my favourite cities in Europe.

The very old buildings have been preserved from yesteryear and its a joy to walk around all these historic buildings.

When visiting Salzburg its my preferred area to stay as it has so much atmosphere, hotels, restaurants, bars, shopping including designer brands and the annual Christmas Market.

Fabulous views from the top of Untersberg... although quite slippy underfoot. We took advice of other reviewers and picked up no 5 bus ... last stop is the cable car station. The cable car is packed but very smooth. A must if you are in Salzburg. Cable cars go every 30 minutes .. on the hour and half hour.

The Salzburg Cathedral has been around for 300 years and was where Mozart was baptized so there is a lot of history within the walls. We took the Dom Quartier tour which included entrance to the Cathedral but from the second floor right by the massive organ. The church is airy and imposing, but filled with light. There is also a small museum that has some beautiful religious artifacts.

We visited the advent Christmas market after visiting the zoo. Firstly, we walked through the gardens and saw the amazing angel statue that was dominating the grounds, hey girlie which had been beautifully lit. We visited the summer house which was used in the filming of the Sound of Music and then went to the Christmas market. The Christmas market was absolutely brilliant. It costs €7 per person but you do get a Glühwein in return. I didn’t have small children but there was a brilliant section, specifically aimed at children with animals and other activities, including a small village to visit, there was also a section on Krampus and the atmosphere was brilliant. The castle itself had been converted into a huge advent calendar which dominated the scene. Fantastic.

Well worth visiting and its FREE. good selection of historic Red Bull cars from F1 etc... and rallying as well as a selection of aircraft and a back story for each exhibit. nice shop (although expensive) and a restaurant (also very expensive) on site. if your not driving its a walk up from the main road trolly bus stop and back as no public transport stops at the museum and although its on the airport its the wrong side or where all the transport is. Well worth the visit though and an easy place to get to if you are driving.

Long queues but brilliant place, lots to entertain young children, especially if it is a wet day. Would definitely recommend.

Easy to find cemetary next to the funicular station. Lovely to wander around the graves, sadly I was there New Year's Day so the catacombs were closed but it's well worth a visit.

We took the bus, easy to get there and buses were very frequent, clean and inexpensive. Great audio tour and the water features were wonderful to watch. We got there at 10.30am and it wasn't too busy. If you want to get soaked you can, but for most you get a tiny spray of water on you. Took advantage of it being such a nice day to wander around the gardens and to view the pavilion from The Sound of Music and had a cooling drink in the cafe. We didn't bother going into the Schloss as our main purpose of visiting was to view the water features. I would strongly recommend.

Beautiful church with incredible paintings and ornamentation inside. Outside is very old cemetery, beautiful and peaceful place to walk through.
