Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We came across the Ruahine Forest Park by chance when we're exploring the Manawatu Scenic Route. We poked our nose into the track for about 30 minutes and decided we'll return the next day to properly explore it.

We returned with a pack lunch and some snack the next day and start walking towards the hut not knowing what to expect. Little did we know we were about to come across some of the most beautiful sceneries we've every seen in the North Island.

You have to really walk the track and see it for yourselves to know how amazing this place is. It's not flooded with tourists like some other great walks, it has everything NZ has to offer. There were some challenging bits through out the track, but nothing too difficult.

The hut was tidy with good facility. We love how they took the effort of painting the sheds and toilets, good touch.

Make sure you spare another 2-3 hours to walk up to the high point. It's well worth it! It's so peaceful and spectacular up there.

This was a pleasant surprise. Looking for a nice place in the area to also take our dog. Our host recommended this one! I must admit I was going in with high expectations thinking a 4.5kms loop was a bit on the short side for us.
I was proven wrong! Lots of “up a hill” “down a hill” mostly covered with roots (so watch your step). Lots of info on the way! And love NZ humour and the cafés! 😉
If taking a dog I recommend to have them off leash as I think “on” could be challenging when you both have to handle walking with care.
Also I love trees but am not an enthusiast, however I truly was made to appreciate the diversity in this piece of forest!
Ka pai for all the hard work put into this space! ❤️

located at the bottom of a gravel track this once popular swiming hole is still popular, but somewhat overgrown now, and with a very small parking space. The water from the waterfall is freezing, but the actual swiming area, small.
If you are visiting then stop at the viewpoint besides the back country road for a spectular view of the dress circle itself with the mountains in the background.
