- bestie81Greenhithe, UK167 contributionsThroughly enjoyed the day trip here. We drove to Plakas Ilios and got a local boat across for €30 (2 adults,1 child). The architecture was very advanced for 16th century, you can explore the whole island and climb the ruins. Great views from every angle, well worth a visit.Written 26 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Martin SMansfield, UK30 contributionsThis a lovely sandy beach. However it is easily overrun by tourists embarking from the many boat trips that moor up for a couple of hours. It would be best to time a visit for early morning or late afternoon. To walk to the beach ( as we did ) head for the windmills walking from the harbour in Elounda pass the fish restaurants and over a small stone bridge. Pass the windmills and stay on the track for another 100 m or so. The road to the beach veers to the right at which point there is a helpful sign post announcing the beach is 3 Km. Follow the path uphill on a clear unmade track until you meet a series of small car parks at the top of the hill.. Look for the red and white signs on the rocks and head off to the right down a rocky incline again signposted by helpful red and white painted signs on the stones. The beach should then greet you. The walk to the beach is lovely and passes some of the most colourful sea imaginable! There are no facilities whatsoever on the beach. Take some water! There are plenty of watering holes on the way back into Elounda to fortify intrepid explorers!Written 28 June 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Off their PManchester, UK4,057 contributionsIt is true that, as a beach, there are many better around. It has large stones and can be uncomfortable unless you have the right equipment.
Ignoring that, it is beautiful. The views are stunning, you get to see all the history around you and the water is crystal clear. The sea is warm and feels very safe.
The island gets very hot so this is a nice place to cool down after visiting all the joys of the Spinalonga.Written 29 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Still worth going there to see the environment and understand a bit about how it could have looked like back in the days. Use the imagination!Written 1 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- GeorgeArtemida, Greece1,939 contributionsNice Sandy beach with sunbeds. When it's windy it's the best spot because this spot doesn't have waves. Parking right next to the beach. Plenty of restaurants and super markets nearby.Written 11 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Andreas Ș149 contributionsThe beach is very clean, with all the facilities that you need (showers, changing rooms, toilets). The water is crystal clear, with a "Blue Flag" certification. I recommend the beach for everyone.Written 9 July 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Katrien SGhent, Belgium1,942 contributionsWe had lunch in the small resort town of Elounda, which is very pleasant, certainly the part near the harbour. In the harbour there are many small and colourful boats, it is also easy to take from here a boat to Spinalonga. Along the harbour there are mostly restaurants, with the odd tourist shop, has very much a seaside resort town feeling to it. Near the harbour is also the church with separate belfry, one of the few churches I found open on my trip in Crete. The church is a quite nice orthodox church, with the typical wall and ceiling decorations .Written 25 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - gak1960Preston Lancashire9 contributionsI caught the ferry from Elounda to Spinalonga, it costs 14 euros return trip, and the length of stay was 70 minutes, which is adequate. Spinalonga is beautiful, it's steeped in history, but the sad part is the history of the leprosy colony. It is very peaceful and quiet on the Island, and when you look at the buildings and read about the history of the island, it makes you think what those poor people must have gone through.Written 3 June 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - David DDevon, UK28,130 contributionsTuesday 25th August an we took a boat trip from Elounda over to Spinalonga, the former leper colony.
A lot of the old buildings are in ruins, there is a programme of restoration and repair been undertaken.
While walking about the site, we visited this old market. These were some of the best restored buildings on the Island. They were rather eye catching with their colourful painted window frames and doors.
The buildings are being used as a small museum/information area.Written 31 August 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
