Breathtaking views, amazing churches, fusion of cultures, history from medeival tomes, palaces, great lunch, refreshing green wine.
Well-deserved Unesco Heritage Site listing within easy reach from better-known Porto, its compact historic district is enchanting, very well-kept, clean and uncrowded.

Located high on a mountaintop, the views enjoyed by the "upper class' rulers of this Iron Age community were splendid.
Iron Age city with amazing view and even more amazing walk thru the ruins.

We got a multi site visit for the palace, castle and the museum of Alberto Sampaio which is only about a 5 to 10 mins walk from the Palace you pass through the praca da Oliveira to get to it.
We declined the opportunity to view the exhibition of Portuguese siege engines but did combine our ticket with admission to the Museo Alberto Sampaio, which I would recommend.

Great architectural work located in an extraordinary place with a breathtaking view.
The views from the side of the terrace were good but because of the height & distance actually seeing into Guimaraes was difficult (long telephoe lens or binoculars.

For my six-year-old it was also memorable because the stairs and supports are built in so you can climb up and explore the top turrets of the castle, and get the strategic view.
The castle was declared a national monument in 1910 and the town as a whole is a UNESCO World Heritage site, as well as a former European Capital of Culture.

Amazing area with a lot of coffee shops and bars; you can seat-down, appreciate the view and enjoy the sun...
Spend quality time within to absorb its sanctity, or enjoy a respite in the Plaza outside to eat or enjoy a refreshment and view its historic splendor, and all that the Square has to offer.

It's a beautiful place with a magnificent view over Guimaraes.
We stayed in one of the two suites here, both of which are on the first floor with views out of the front of the Pousada, down over Guimaraes.

Today, the Third Order of Carmelites (a lay association) maintains watch over the site and are more than happy if you want to visit the upper choir (1euro), otherwise the visit is free and this is a perfect place...
