Situated on the end of Praia Formosa it gives a wonderful view of Cabo girao at night and now the refinery has moved to canical a very pleasant place to sit and soak up the atmosphere
It's nice walking along this beach, lots of nice cafes near by and great views of the ocean, a must see.

these gardens were just 1 euro entry, just came upon it from walking, and what a surprise, they are so beautiful and well kept with the advantage of wonder full views over funchal bay, highly recommended.
There is also an unlimited view of the harbour and the old city.

It has an interesting history which was explained well but the highlight of the tour was the tower where you can sample a glass of Madeira while admiring the 360 views.
The finale is a visit to the tower with a 360 view of Funchal with the guide providing information on certain landmarks, we were again given a glass of Madeira wine.

Great view all around, fun guy (the Prince!) running the place for donations, and a haven for the royal cats.
We were welcomed by the Prime Minister and Baron (also cleaner and gardener) who gracefully permitted us to explore the entire nation, the views from the rocktop and the rocky seaside below.

If you are in Funchal then this fort is well worth a look, the views out to sea are great and you also get to see some of Funchal from the top.
It's an old fortress which ou can visit for free it's very well preserved the view is fabulous and has a restaurant just next door.
