Truly a wonderful experience in the woods of Madeira, with breathtaking views, amazing flowers all around, waterways ... If you love horseback riding into nature, this is the place!
I didnt have much experience horse riding, but this was really great easy trek through the national park and the horse had a lovely temperament and was very easy to ride.

Fantastic view, beautiful nature, best place on Madeira
After Ruivo, we had a lovely gentle walk on to a car park, where the bus met us and took us for a drive on the north of the island.

A parking lot (not very big but you can park along the road) is there at the beginning of the trail and you can also use Bus No.113 - Funchal, Sta Cruz, Airport, Machico, Canical, the start of the hike.
Pretty easy to get there and to walk up to the Ponta, sightseeing is astonishing, worth to spend there some hours bring a picnic meal to full immerse in the wonderful nature.

I would definitely recommend a visit here but go in the morning as the car park fills very quickly and the clouds often gather from lunchtime onwards.

You need to be impressed by the awe of nature and the views of the ocean but well above the birds a great trip.
A short down hill walk from the car park takes you to the cliff edge where you can walk the walk of faith across a glass balcony which protrudes out from the cliff over the sea.

More botanic park than formal garden but great multi-level walk; an excellent African art exhibit; great gem/mineral collection; ponds waterfalls; great way to spend some time!

Our guide had a great knowladge of the levadas, nature and history of the island, knew great spots for photos and went at a good pace but one that all of us could keep up with.
Age wise we were a very diverse group and the guide made frequent stops along the way to wait for people to catchup and also explained and showed us much of the nature and sights along the way (and different plant...

Anyway parking in Ribeiro is quite difficult as cars take one side of the road and force traffic down the other or you can park at the top of the hill and walk in.
If you like nature go for it.

Imagine a giant horseshoe-like cavern with more than two dozen fresh water springs emerging from its embrace and settling on rocks carved smooth by the artistry of nature.
The walks start from a car park on the ER110 on tarmac for 20-30 mins then well signposted tracks, mostly easy walking but as some of it follows levadas (ancient irrigation channels) it is sometimes narrow and the...

We just stumbled across this park while waiting for the shuttle bus back to our cruise ship (The Azamara Journey).
Trees are as interesting as the flowers throughout the parks and well worth viewing.
#21 of 82 Nature & Parks in Madeira Islands
An oasis in a busy area of Funchal, lovely park with lots of flower beds and fountains, café in the corner with sun shades, plenty of seats in the sun or shade, well worth a visit.
Great city centre park, the trees are looking lovely at this time of year, many exotic blooms out, including the frangipani trees.
#22 of 82 Nature & Parks in Madeira Islands
It is a national park so ecosystem is very rich, loads of lovely and varied species of fish, also other sea creatures.
To get to the beach you can either walk down the winding road, dive and "try" and park or simply head down on the cable car.

Great place where you can walk in silence and enjoy surrounding nature.
The journey from the car park to the real start of the walk at the foresters' house is down a steep tarmacked road for about 2km.
