Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Extremely busy - get there early so you can see. Lovely to see the tradition of the cheese market. A beautiful town to visit.

Very nice and educational museum with a reasonable price for family of €19. It has elevator access that covers a very interesting era of the history of the region.

It's worth going if you are there, it's small and relatively inexpensive. Cheese market was open the day we went, but the museum was not crowded. Probably worth 90 minutes. Was disappointed you couldn't go outside to the top or overlook the city.

The Kissing Cheese Girl statue, located near the Waagplein, dressed in traditional costume, the statue celebrates the rich history of Alkmaar and its famous cheese culture.

Even on the busiest day it is fairly easy to get your picture with the statue.

Ww walked one of the many routes through the neighboring fields and meadows (cows considered us an attraction and followed us) and along ditches and barbed wire which in the end turned into a 10 mile walk. The last mile and a half covered more rural territory and had us walk past the windmill. Luckily there was a bench and a blue sky. What a lovely sight it was. From below it is huge and it looks very well maintained. It's still in use and people still live in it.

My son and I did a quick bike ride to the ¨De Hoornse Vaart¨, which in fact is a swimming and recreation center. Besides indoor and outdoor swimming and other fun & sports activities it offfers a large outdoor climbing arena for all experience levels.
Besides the 5 different tracks in different heights and difficulty levels, we also did the free fall from the 16m tower and the ropeway (hanging). Big fun and really something to overcome fear of heights (acrophobia). Definitely something you should do with kids or on your own, if you like climbing. You are always secured, so even if you fall, it will never be more than half a meter to a meter.
Come on, don't be shy, get it on!

Alkmaarder Hout offers large mature beech and oak trees around a dear-enclosure and aviary. The first trees were planted in 1607 and were replaced over the centuries.L.A Springer designed the current park between the old centre of Alkmaar and the woodland"Bos van Heiloo".Both the Alkmaar cemetery and the MCA Alkmaar Hospital are situated inside the large park causing a considerable amount of visitors.Ienjoyed the first crocusses of spring in february.

This cinema employs friendly staff, has comfy seats, good sound, has onsite (paid) parking and is close to Alkmaar's city center. Parking fee paid in the cinema is at a reduced price versus the machine inside the parking garage itself.

Jen was a fantastic guide. She is a local so not only does she know the area and history but she knows the cheese carriers at the cheese market as well. She was able to get us inside the fence at the market for a close up view and a couple members of our group were even invited to carry cheese with the cheese carriers! What a remarkable and unforgettable experience! Highly recommend this tour!

Beautiful canals in Alkmaar. One of the best way to move about this delightful city is to take this canal boat tour. Be prepared to bend low as not to hit your head as you pass under a multitude of very very low bridges. Great tour.

We’ve hired boats from here a few times now and the staff have been extremely friendly every time, the boats were always clean and the price wasn’t too bad either! Would definitely recommend

We hired a boat and travelled to Broek op Langedijk (1000 islands). A great trip out with the family.
Excellent service, boat was in good condition. Flexibility when booking a longer trip.

Buiten met Buiter is a very good boat hire experience in Alkmaar. The boats are comfortable and there is no time limit on your hire, which is also reasonably priced. The staff are friendly but it can be hard to find where to go to book.
