And sometimes, unexpectedly, a view of the modern port in the distance.
The church stands not far from the remains of the fortified castle of the bishop, built between the 9th and 10th centuries on top of the hill, on the site occupied by the pre-Roman, Roman and Byzantine fortificati...
Portovenere Porto Venere
#2 of 666 Sights & Landmarks in Italian Riviera
Cool! Plus Porto Venere had much more to do than the other CT options, easily walkable with beautiful harbor views and a skyline dotted with sail boats, forts, castles and a cathedral to explore.
It is actually quite spacious which gives tourists plenty of room to walk and view a variety of beautiful sites from the town's colorful facade, the centuries old church, and gorgeous rock formations.

Enjoy the wonderful medieval city with its narrow streets, situated in the hillside, with a spectacular view!
Absolute must see if you are around, very beautyful norrow medevial alleys with colorful flowers and a stunning view from the top.

The town was just too beautiful - when viewing from the trails, during sunset and afterwards when the town was lit up - it was amazing - one of the best towns to view.
Trails along the terraces on the adjacent hillsides offer splendid views in all directions including nearby villages.

Great views, breath-taking shoreline, head-swimming aromas of flowering trees and bushes, and a few good spots for a glass of wine overlooking the sea expanse.
Lovely walk with a stunning view on the beach, perfect scenery for a romantic dinner or a cute lunch - there are a couple of restaurants along the way!

The church of San Giovanni Battista is outstanding in all ways, - it is a very visable landmark for miles around.
The steep climb up from the main road took about 20 minutes, but the sea view was well worth it, and the church even better.

It`s very close to the University and other landmarks.
Truly stunning basilica located at the end of Via Balbi, not far from the University and a walking distance to Porto Antico, Via Garibaldi and other major sights in Genoa.

Our heritage walk through the city of Genoa brought us from the famed heart of Genoa (Piazza de Ferrari) through a Christmas decorated street to the UNESCO heritage site of Garibaldi street known as Via Garibaldi.
We enjoyed Palazzi Bianco and Rosso and I am sure you would enjoy both , especially the rooftop view from Rosso.

The art is interesting as is the palace and at the end, you get to go on to the roof and the view of Genoa is breath-taking.

Beautiful little chapel tucked away at the head of the promontory, a place of relaxation and reflection as well as to admire the views.
The setting is gorgeous- high above the sea with fabulous views over the marina and out to sea - but easily accessible.

The fact that is still functions as a site of religious service is a testament of the populations dedication to its traditions and roots and also of the local authorities' interest in preserving local history.
On this trip to Genoa I was lucky (?) to climb the 220 steps to the top of the cathedral and see the bell tower and stunning views all over Genoa and snow-covered mountains beyond.

Great panoramic views from the outside areas and when we visited it was interesting to see an old, local craft in use as a craftsman repaired part of the pebble mosaic garden.
The garden sloping to the old port has a beautiful view and cobblestone mosaic around a central fountain with lilies.
