Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Much is written about obtaining your ticket. Please use the official website it is by far the safest and guaranteed way of ensuring you get what you want. Ticket touts try and persuade you to buy their tickets, don’t!
Check the website for your favoured ticket. Buy online is so much easier and a lot quicker to get in. Do arrive 15mins before your ticket entry time. The entrance is very easy to find.
You must have your ticket, either printed or on your mobile and proof of ID. You can purchase tickets on the day but you may find a massive queue!
Honestly the ‘ordinary tour’ is sufficient, it also includes entry to Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum. The ‘underground’ tour is borderline pointless as hardly anything is underground anymore.
We did pay 8Euro for a guided tour. This was excellent. Our tour guide was brilliant, she provided all guests with a small receiver and ear-piece so we could hear her as we toured the site. We were not rushed and had plenty of opportunities for photographs.
The tour takes an hour, and she gave us so much interesting information. Once concluded you can still stay and explore. There are steep stairs to climb but an elevator is available.
The Colosseum is a must see, but do your homework first to ensure you have the best experience.

We came at noon, and there was no line at all. The building is very impressive, and considering that it's almost 1900 years old makes it even more so

Even though it was under refurbishment In some ways we got a closer view as they allowed us onto temporary walkway through so we were able to marvel at the statues more closely. A makeshift water pool was still available to toss coins in as per tradition. Still worth seeing.

Quaint, peaceful, and private neighborhood in Rome with lots of eateries, little stores, and other attractions. Sites on the other side of the bridge, which lead into the busy city of Rome, are within walking distance.

We stayed within spitting distance of the piazza. Walked here most mornings to start our day. Sit on a bench with coffee and just take in the sights, watch the world go by. Imagine how it was. Choice of restaurants and cafes on the piazza, some are great others are just bland and over priced. Go further a field if you want less churned out dishes.

An absolutely beautiful basilica! Free entry. Easy access. Not insanely busy like so many other sites in Rome. A definite must see if you’re in the area.

This is worth getting the "super" tickets that allow you to see the special sites on the hill, such as the Palatine museum, the house of Augustus and Flavia, Romulus' cabin, etc. Without such tickets you can still stroll around the ruins, but you will miss the special places and archeological treasures that were found at this location, dating back to the very foundation of Rome.
We recommend dedicating a whole morning or afternoon specifically to the Palatine. Do not combine it with a visit to the Colosseum or the Roman Forum on the same day, for you will probably see evryting superficially and get tired in the process.

I have been trying to get here since I first came to Rome back in 2009 and this was finally the first time. We were jet lagged but made the trek because we’d already bought the tickets. We went at 6pm and that was a great time as it wasn’t too hot or too crowded. There was a lot of steps (or rather walkways with a high elevation) which wasn’t great for my jet lagged self but I was really glad I went. It was incredibly thorough and informative. Had my husband not been literally falling asleep I would have definitely stopped at the cafe on the top level and enjoyed some wine with a great view.

The gardens are very large, and it could take a few hours to see all parts. The views of the trees in the autumn are magnificent

Went to the "Super Sites" today at the Palatine Hill and Roman Forum. Have been several times but I always learn something new and discover something I have not seen before. This was the very heart of ancient Rome and always fascinating as well as beautiful.

On clear afternoon, decided to climb the monumental tiered staircase to enjoy what has to be the best panoramic view of Rome. Once I had made it to the top-most platform (free access), I decided to splurge and take the elevator (not free) to the very top with 360 degrees view. Great for “selfies” at dusk with the Colosseum and Forum in the background - these not viewable from the tiered platforms below. A bonus with the elevator ticket was entrance to a special exhibit on Guglielmo Marconi. It was excellent!

Interesting and pretty. Fun to climb.
Beautiful at night. Big tip: do not engage with the flower guys. They’ll pressure you into buying flowers after they act like they are GIVING them to your lady.

Rome has a rich and long history that has left us with a plethora of atmospheric streets in its old town. It’s one of the most fascinating old cities in the world

Another great site in Rome well worth a visit. Right up there with the Piazza Colonna as far as a former grand estate filled with significant paintings and sculptures.
