- Akkers1London, UK1,074 contributionsWe decided to have a day trip whist we were here and went to La Gomera which was a place that we had never been to before.
We were picked up and taken to the ferry terminal where we caught the ferry across to La Gomera which takes about an hour. We had the same coach driver, Massimo, and Samuel who was our tour guide throughout the trip.
It was quite a whistle stop tour, but was very interesting seeing things like the Hermigua Valley, Garajonay National Park, the Laguna Grande, the Roque de Agando to name but a few places.
Lunch was provided at a restaurant in Agulo, which was nice and rustic. Here we also had a live demonstration of Gomeran whistling which was really interesting.
The last part of the tour was a quick walk through the capital San Sebastián before getting back on the ferry.
Rather than be dropped off back at our pickup spot we decided to walk back from the ferry terminal as it was quicker than going round all the other drop off points before ours.

The tour showcases mostly beautiful vistas and historical sights. There is an excellent lunch served halfway through the tour with a wonderful demonstration of La Gomera’s whistling language. Here are a few things you might want to consider before taking the tour though. The tour involves a ferry ride to the island and getting on and off the ferry is a steep climb. Same with getting in and out of the tour bus. The bus is large and drives on narrow winding roads and switchbacks so might not be for folks that get car sick without medication. And lastly this is a long tour, a full day. While I really enjoyed the tour, it was more time on a bus than I liked but we don’t do many bus tours so maybe that is how bus tours are. I don’t want to discourage anyone from the tour because it was great and Tony was wonderful! - deborahadams24London, UK55 contributionsAmazing. There were 5 of us, 2 from London who spoke a little Spanish and a family of 3 from Madrid who spoke some English. The tour itself was brilliant. Basil, our guide, took us all around the island, telling us lots about the island, life on the island, and the geology of the area. His knowledge is extensive, and he went out of his way to talk and answer any question, switching between Spanish and English in the same breath. My friend and i really enjoyed ourselves and made some friends along the way. I went on the La Gomera tour with them, although the tour was outsourced to a different company. The tour itself was great. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and the driver was also very friendly. We had enough time to visit places, take photos, and enjoy some leisure time.
We had some hickups regarding the pickup location. But luckily the guide was able to find me.
