Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We booked with Manfred Pitz, owner of A Friend in Heidelberg, to hear history and tour the area around Heidelberg. We communicated by email or what's app as soon as we booked and discussed his guide service in detail. Since we were 2 couples with different likes/dislikes, we waited until all 4 were together before finalizing the 6 hour itinerary, but we ended up happy with our tour of the exterior of Heidelberg Castle and the gardens a few miles into the nearby city at the summer retreat of the prince elect. He picked us up at our hotel on time and delivered us back timely after late lunch at a wonderful restaurant where he ordered for us to try many local German foods. We could not have been happier with this private tour in an air-conditioned very comfortable van, and his stories of local colorful characters. I would highly recommend this "friend" opportunity as a fun, reasonably priced and very interesting way to visit Heidelberg.

I was met at the hotel and taken on a great tour around the city. My guide was very kinds, nice and certainly well informed. Made the city appear even more interesting and significant. I would definitely choose these service again for sure.

If I could put 0/5 I would. What’s even more disappointing is that we were unable to get a refund for the ~$140 experience for 2.

From email received asking for a refund: “Our Lokafyers are not professional tour guides; they are friendly locals who are passionate about their cities and happy to share their private, non-touristic knowledge of them with the Travellers.”

We did start the tour an hour late on our choice knowing that we paid for a 3 hour tour rather than 2 hour tour. At that time, we were fine paying for the 3 hour tour as we chose to start late. Even with that, we chose to end 30 minutes early as the tour was terrible.

The tour started with her insulting gypsies as she was commenting on a “gypsy begging for money.” Throughout the tour she proceeded to share her distaste for any immigrant (Turkish/Ukrainian/any refugee/gypsies/anyone with a beard).

We briefly went through the red lights district where she shared that this was where the LGBTQIA+ community would go, but “I don’t know about that.” And then it looked like she rolled her eyes indicating she didn’t like or approve of the community.

She would point to buildings and say “that’s an old building because it looks old.”

Towards the end she shared how she almost died in august, needed surgery, and that she didn’t take the recommended blood transfusion because other people are “dirty.” This came up as we had passed a couple of people handing out flyers, but they were addressing the environment, not Jehovah’s Witnesses (which she thought they were).

The final comment where we politely cut off the tour (by lying that we were hungry and wanted to find something to eat) was that she stated the USA should’ve nuked Germany and that the USA is still horrible.

I get it’s customized but she didn’t have a clear plan and disregarded what we had wanted.

We didn’t tip and we always tip our guides. We’ve taken many tours and this was by far the worst one we have ever been on. We are fine with tour guides sharing a bit on their political views as we understand that all people have the right to their own opinion, however this felt like a 90 minute rant from a person who doesn’t even like Germany, let alone Stuttgart.

Steven Wright organized and led an amazing auto themed tour for my grandson and me. Steven was our chauffer, concierge and constant companion. He attended to every detail from a guided walking tour of Munich, auto-themed hotels in a unique automotive experience venue (Motor World), tickets and reservations for factory and museum tours and reservations at wonderful restaurants that only a local resident would know. Steve is kind, patient, thoughtful, helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, prompt and organized. Steven provided a detailed, and I mean detailed, itinerary months before we departed. If you are interested in an immersive German auto experience, Wright Escorted Auto Tours are the REAL deal! Steven Wright is the REAL deal!

A beautiful building. We went with 2 teenagers and took the advice to go straight up to level 8. The library looked amazing from this level and easy access to the roof terrace. What we hadn’t expected is when you walk in it doesn’t look like the photos online - you are in the right place. When you look up, the light well in the middle is the base of the upper section seen in the photos - so just head up the stairs or to the lift.

Such beautiful palaces, such rich history and such a lovely guide. Throughout my recent travels in Europe I must say that this was really one of the top pearls. What an experience!
