This is a nice square which is surrounded by some beautiful buildings. There is a large fountain at the center. I would recommend initially visiting during the day but then returning in a evening as it has a totally different feel when the lights are on.

This attraction was easy to get to by tram and is also on the open-top bus tour. There is a lot to see inside, all about the world of wine, obviously. You could easily spend half a day there. We enjoyed it.

The light show was really good, interesting and different, well worth a visit and free parking.
Just wish the Mondrian part of the show was a bit slower.

This is a one off attraction. Well set in front of the square to catch the reflections. The weather at the time of your visit is a key factor. We visited on a number of occasions, The worst was when it was cloudy and there was some rain in the air. The best were when it was sunny and also late at night when the lights are on the buildings and the crowds have depleted . Timing is a key factor.

The visit to the vineyard was very pleasant, inviting and nice to understand the history, we sampled three wines on the day also, the last one wasn’t to my liking but that’s fine

We did not go inside the cathedral, but we looked it from outside and we were very impressed. It looked like it had been cleaned recently as the stone was a very creamy white colour. The architecture is impressive , lots of masonry to look at. The carvings are impressive. It is a very big cathedral, you can see the bell tower and the spire which stands out, especially when you see the town from a distance.

This was our first tour at the beginning of our Bordeaux trip. We were able to see how the area and its trade history developed into a main hub of European wines. Lovely exhibits of original photos, artifacts etc. Definitely worth a visit!!

Used to be a bit scruffy, but now seems nicer. Not busy late morning but still plenty of fresh produce on offer.
Several fishmongers and butchers, as well as vegetable stalls.
And being covered helps on a wet day

The main bridge in the city centre is very attractive and ornate. The low level arches and brick work are very distinctive and attractive. At night with the individuals lights lit up it just adds to the attraction

This is a very beautiful massive tower or castle entrance. After completing our visit to reflection pool and Place De La Bourse, we walked to this place. We then went to a tram station near by to take the train to Olympics stadium to visit a football match. Overall good experience in the city. We also rented a car to travel to Saint Emilion and Beynac-et-Cazenac including a boat ride in Dardogne river.

We went here on our last day in the city. It is a pleasant park, not outstanding but still worth a visit and a stroll around after you have spent a few days looking at the other attractions of the city. The prices in the cafe were expensive.

After a fire destroyed the city’s main theatre in 1756, the Grand Théâtre was constructed between 1773 and 1780 by architect Victor Louis.

Described as a masterpiece of European architecture, it is located in the beautiful and central Place de la Comédie. Neoclassical in style, it evokes musings of ancient architecture thanks to its Corinthian columns. The Grand Théâtre is fronted by a columned portico, with 12 impressive Corinthian columns adorning its façade. The portico is crowned by 12 stone statue representing goddesses and muses -9 muses and 3 goddess – Minerva, Venus and Juno.

I was surprised to discover that it served as inspiration for designing the Paris opera house as the staircase served as a model for the Opera Garnier in Paris.

Our guide explained that thanks to precise acoustic calculations, the theater auditorium is famous for its excellent acoustics.

It is no coincidence that the French National Assembly moved here when Paris was occupied by the Prussians during the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871.

Unfortunately, we could not view the interior, perhaps this will be a reason to return to Bordeaux.

Surprisingly, once we walked around the building, we found it to be domed, however, if you stand far enough back on Allées de Tourny you can snap a great picture of this architectural beauty.

Today the theatre is the seat of the Opéra National de Bordeaux.

Apparently this street is the longest pedestrian street in Europe! Major shopping opportunities here, although the shopping goes a bit low rent towards the end.

This is a great fountain and monument. Well worth a visit when you are in the locality. Take time to look at the two different sides of the fountains
