Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Apparently this street is the longest pedestrian street in Europe! Major shopping opportunities here, although the shopping goes a bit low rent towards the end.

A traditional style mall with a store for everyone and everything. There is a multi-level grocery store. Kind of like a giant Aldi. You'll find clothing stores, housewares, hardware, dining, health and beauty items, a little everything. There's a food court and a tram stop too.

Easily walkable riverfront sidewalk lined with shops for cruises along much of it. Might find a shop to your liking. Also bikeable and you can see downtown Bordeaux and the river, so the views are nice too.

Coming from the direction of the 'Grand Théâtre' and walking down Bordeaux' most famous street, the Rue Sainte-Cathérine, one will soon come upon the department store Galeries Lafayette and a McDonald's next to it. Just on the opposite side, where Rue Sainte-Cathérine meets the Rue Saint-Rémy with its many restaurants one will see the entrance to the older of the two covered passages in Bordeaux.

What is special about the 'Galerie Bordelaise' is the fact that it cuts in a diagonal way through a city block, which is rather rare. The craze for covered passages started in Paris at the end of the 18th century, offering an elegant shopping opportunity without being exposed to the weather. Its end came in mid-19th century with the first 'Grands Magasins' (department stores) like 'Le Bon Marché' or 'Le Printemps'.

From Paris the idea soon spread to the provinces and to other countries. One of the first covered passages outside Paris was the 'Galerie Bordelaise' from 1833. It has all the features of this typical Parisian phenomenon: privately owned, pedestrian, with a glass ceiling, artificial illumination (at the beginning with gas lamps), rich decoration, many small shops and connecting two streets. The Galerie Bordelaise offers itself also for a nice break during a city tour, thanks to its pleasant looking 'La Maison du Café'.

We stopped here to buy a few things. It's a somewhat big shopping mall, centrally located. Convenient and practical.
