Crashing waves, all kinds of seabirds flying around and nesting in the nearby cliffs, views to die for--all this makes the drive so worth it.
We loved this place so much that we visited a second time on a sunny day and had another wonderful time enjoying the superb ocean views.

Lews Castle Stornoway
#7 of 20 Sights & Landmarks in Isle of Lewis
All the staff was very friendly to us, nice breakfast, great views outside the castle, We experienced a special atmosphere of castle surrounded by forests, wild animals, endless sky and water.
Our suite included a large kitchen / living room space, which was beautifully furnished with all mod cons and perfectly finished with a view of Stornoway harbour.
Stornoway Harbour Stornoway
#8 of 20 Sights & Landmarks in Isle of Lewis
We spent 4 days in Stornoway and I loved coming down to the harbor in the evenings and walk about or sit and enjoy the lovely views and beautiful yachts.
You get a good view from the castle grounds so it is worth walking up sufficiently to be able to cross over the water and then look back as the evening sun hits the buildings.

Iolare Memorial Stornoway
#14 of 20 Sights & Landmarks in Isle of Lewis
Even if you are not interested in the history, it makes for pleasant walk down to the sea, and the views are stunning.
Seeing the site helps understanding of the difficulties of those trying to gain the shore in stormy winter weather and at the dead of night smashed against the rocks with no path up the steep shoreline to safety.
