Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- XxLondon, UK48 contributionsShaftesbury is famous for Gold Hill, a steep cobbled street that has been a classic location in British tourism commercials. Standing at the top, you can overlook the breathtaking Dorset countryside. The ancient abbey ruins and friendly small-town atmosphere offer a unique charm of the English countryside. From London, take a train to Salisbury and transfer to a bus to Shaftesbury.Written 21 October 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - HawaiiSeaDogHawaii4,284 contributionsThis is a most interesting museum in a small house at the top of the hill. The staff, all volunteers, made us very welcome and added to the experience with their wealth of knowledge. - Patric DSandbach, UK1,065 contributionsThis is a 'must-do' if you have any love of wine. The vineyard is relatively small so it is easy to get around and see the different grape varieties that they grow.
Our tour was conducted by the owner who was so enthusiastic about her 'hobby' and very knowledgeable on the entire process from initial planting of the vines, through to bottling and labelling the finished product.
Our tour included lunch and a tasting session. The wines were quite unique due to a combination of the grape varieties used, the weather from year to year, and the micro-climate of the site.
Lunch consisted of local foodstuffs: bread from the bakery next door, Dorset cheeses, ham from the butcher in Shaftesbury and some local chutneys.
