Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- Ken DOttawa, Canada128 contributionsWe learned a lot in our tour and Greg gave us lots of samples too. The Distillery is in an old forge and is a character filled space. There are plenty of liquor options as well as other merchandise. Even without a tour, it's a good place to browse and perhaps enjoy a sample or two. Easy walking distance to the waterfront and other shops.Written 23 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - KK78Bay Shore, NY730 contributionsSuch a cute town to walk around. I loved the colorful houses! Take a walk along the harbor too, nice to do after sitting in the car.Written 24 October 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - wlehmanRock Hill, SC84 contributionsThe blue caste to the rocks on the shoreline are apparent only with sunny weather, but, anytime, the journey, by bicycle, is highly recommended. Mahone bay route is amazing, scenery and the postcard fishing villages, barns, and the “three churches”. Traffic can be a challenge, but drivers are considerate and helpful, rather than sometimes predatory in the USA.Written 26 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Brian TLondon, UK6,782 contributionsOh My! Even if you are not a quilter, or have no general interest in the craft of quilting (such as I), you cannot help but be totally captivated by the beautiful works of art (and that’s essentially what Laurie Swim’s quilts are) which are on display in this enchanting little gallery. Laurie Swim, now in her 70s, is a Nova Scotian artist / quilter who has taken the craft of quilting to a much higher level - a spectacular art form rather than a colourful throw for your bed.
I found myself peering closely at amazing stitchings, beautiful threads and fabrics and textiles, gorgeous colour combinations, and the intricate use of tiny shells and crystals and the like, which adds another wonderful dimension to her works of art.
I’d heard about the artist via her incredible ’Hope and Survival’ memorial quilt which she created for the commemoration of the 1917 explosion which ripped Halifax apart 100 years ago, as we were exploring sites relating to this event in Halifax.
This gallery is certainly worth a visit, to see a collection of Laurie’s works at close range. There’s quite a number of her quilts on display. The assistant at the gallery was helpful, explaining Laurie’s work and giving information about her techniques and how she goes about creating her masterpieces (because that is what they are).
The gallery is free to visit; there’s a nice collection of cards and books for purchase there.
It’s located at 138 Lincoln Street in Lunenburg, towards the western end of the town. It’s a must for quilters and art lovers alike! For those with mobility impairments, note that there are some stairs up to the gallery entrance.Written 30 August 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Susan HSouthwest Nova Scotia, Canada80 contributionsIt was open farm day today across Nova Scotia so we took a trip to Heckman’s Island just outside of Lunenburg to see Terra Beata Cranberry Farm. While the shop is open year round, there is only one day of the year where you can tour the processing facility. About a dozen people joined the owner for an extended tour of the farm and facility where we learned all about cranberries - everything from planting, growing, and harvesting to processing the berries. It was fascinating and inspiring to meet someone who had a vision and worked hard to achieve it. We sampled blueberry ginger lemonade, homemade granola bars and cranberry shortbread which were all Amazing with a capital A. Terra Beata Farm very generously supplied the recipes too which I plan to make tomorrow. The farm offers a cranberry u-pick just in time for Thanksgiving which I will definitely be going to. We loved our tour and wish this enterprise all the success it deserves.Written 16 September 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Cathy HMontreal, Canada5 contributionsStopped in for Fish and Chips on Wednesday Aug 4 th . Best Fish n Chips I've ever had . Was welcomed by the owners who also own the Art Gallery , such talent . They also make there own ice cream , was too full from the amazing fish n Chips . Nice picnic tables with umbrellas for shade and dog friendly . Friendly folks who shared lots of knowledge of things to do and see in the area . The Crosby Greenhouse in Liverpool/Brooklyn NS they told us about was amazing . Looks like nothing from the front but behind is sculptures all through the forest , never seen anything like it . Thanks so much for the suggestion and it was free . Thank you again for the great meal and conversation. Stay well and much success in the future. - Dream652942114945 contributionsWe started our visit to Lunenburg on the main street, checking out the galleries. We had a lovely discussion with a talented photographer who suggested that the best views of Lunenburg were across the bay. He recommended the Lightship Brewery for craft beer and a light lunch. Wow - was he right! We had a perfect, light lunch and wonderful craft beer, with an outstanding view of Lunenburg. As always, the locals know!!!Written 23 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.

- Donovan MRegina, Canada13 contributionsI traveled prior to April 2019 but Trip Advisor will not let me go further back than this. My wife and I happened across this gallery quite by accident. The artwork jumped off the wall and contained significant detail and depth. I found it to truly be a feast for my senses. One must be able to appreciate and respect the process that the artist follows to place the art in the hands of those who would like to purchase it. We chose to purchase three works. It is true, we did not understand at first that we could not walk out with the one we were looking at. But at the end of the day, I am able to meditate on some beautiful artwork in my home and this would not be the case if I had not taken the chance and made the investment.Written 6 March 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - vbo49San Carlos, CA38 contributionsThis is a wonderful yarn shop with a wide selection of beautiful spun fibers, needles and accessories. The owner is most helpful and knowledgeable. - LLMSOntarioOntario85 contributionsThe Lunenburg Farmers Market is amazing. We rented a cottage fir a month this year and went every Thursday. We loved the fresh produce - heirloom tomatoes especially. It’s well organized, safe and lots of fun. I wish there were a few more picnic tables outside to eat the newly purchased chocolate croissant:)Written 8 August 2021This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
