Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What travellers are saying
- James MAuckland, New Zealand423 contributionsWe drove from the tourist side of the island to visit. It's worth the drive. The views are superb, as is the gin. We tried the tasting trio of gins. I loved the Spirit of Waiheke, which is oily and possesses intense citrus flavours. The Brazilian host was very pleasant, and informative. If you've got an hour or so to spare and like a drive then definitely go. If you like gin you'll find something you like. - Heather MKawerau, New Zealand262 contributionsCame as part of dads 60th birthday, on their visit over from Scotland. Was a very informative and enjoyable tour with a decent tasting of the whiskys made. Would recommend to whisky novices and enthusiasts alike.

- nzcowladyAuckland112 contributionsAndi has (days ago) received her licence to hold tastings at her distillery and we were delighted to be tasting party #3. She has an amazingly professional tasting set up and we got to taste three of her lovely gins. Her knowledge of distilling and cocktails in general is vast and we loved sharing stories of special gin events we had been to around the world (back when we could leave the country!). And the gin itself is very special. Very glad our planned trip to Aotea (Great Barrier Island) was delayed by Covid until now and we got to meet Andi and taste her gin.Written 9 November 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Andy C1 contributionWhat an amazing experience the distillery tour was, a really fun way to see what goes into making my favourite spirit. The head distiller showed us around the distillery and talked us through the process and ingredients involved. I can highly recommend a visit.Written 26 September 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- dog mBirkenhead, New Zealand50 contributionsIf you love gin you must go to the d:STILproject gin school. Even if you don’t love gin you’ll still enjoy yourself
The setting is beautiful. Modern airy buildings sypatgetically placed amongst gardens and paddocks of alpacas
Sarah is patient informative and passionate about her craft. Kevin is a friendly genial host and cook Elaine creates a tasty lunch
You’ll learn a lot get to experience the full distillation process and make and drink your own gin to take home. Sarah makes the experience idiot proof Everyone in our class was pleased with their result. I teckon my own gin would retail at around $80 so add in the experience and lunch and what you drnk and its a real calue for money dayWritten 14 November 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
