Experiencing Aotearoa NZ's history and culture is a must-do for Kiwis and tourists alike, its a beautiful walk, and make sure to wear your sunglasses and sunscreen!

This was my very first time to Cape Reinga and it was well worth the drive. The walk to the lighthouse is very pleasant and nicely graded. The views are spectacular in every direction. The lighthouse is very photogenic and there are information boards to tell you more about the area. We also did some of the walks down to beaches in the area. One of the walks is the northern end of the Te Araroa Trail. Definitely a highlight of a trip to New Zealand.

A beautiful water fall on the outskirts of the city. There is plenty of parking and a well marked walk down to the base of the falls and up the other side, forming a loop. I was surprised at how beautiful the falls were. There are bathrooms at the parking lot and information about the falls.

A pleasant stop on the way north. Lots to see and explore in this large museum. Well organized with plenty of information. If you like machinery, there is plenty. It was interesting to read about the lives of the early settlers. There's a simple cafe across the road.

A short walk to see this magnificent tree. The bush (forest) is very pretty. You will need to clean your shoes before entering. There is a bathroom across the road. Be aware that the walk is open certain hours. We arrived too late one day so drove back the following day.

This is a lovely place with traditional buildings still dominating the area.. We stayed in the town for two days and enjoyed walking around the harbour every day. The harbour itself is charming and the views across the bay are great.

We visited the Glow worms as part of a shore excursion. Well organized. No photos within the caves. The memory of the glow worms will be the the only souvenir you take home. It's about roughly an hour we spent there. I wish they did a meal where they bake in the ground as a traditional Maori meal. I think it's fascinating that the family has owned it for many generations.

Easy access to most platforms to view and take photos. A good swimming area at the bottom. I enjoyed being able to get several views of these falls and wish I had had my swim gear with me.
    Parking was easy, too.

We visited here as part of our tour to Cape Reinga. we walked along the beach and observed a fellow and his friends fishing with a drone and taking the line out 1.5 kilometers into the sea. the fish he caught were abundant. The walk along the beach was quite pleasant.

The Whangarei Heads is such a fabulous area. Ocean Beach is huge and popular. There is good parking and bathrooms. Follow the trail for hiking. Then we drove over to Urquhart Bay where there is a smaller parking area. The walk over to Smugglers Bay was nice, even though a herd of big cows were very close to us! There were several other walks. The views are wonderful along the way.

This was one of the standout of this trip. The guided tour of the printery was amazing and very informative. We were the only two so we were not rushed and had plenty of time to ask questions and view the different parts of the printery. Terri our guide was knowledgeable and had a good sense of humour. The self guided tour of the gardens was a bonus. There is a small gift shop and a lovely French cafe on site. After the tour we had morning tea with fresh produce to accompany our drinks. Service again was friendly and efficient. I would imagine that it would get busy so go early.

The Kiwi house has two birds and we were lucky enough to see both . The staff are so engaging and willing to talk to Visiters . The grounds are interesting and well laid out with historic buildings . It’s a great place to visit
