Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What a great way to get REAL in the country! Well versed and well spoken ladies led us through the workings of herding sheep and farm life.

Not sign posted when travelling south from Queenstown, via State Highway 6. I had read about it being a "must see" and knew roughly where it was. The layby to pull over is set up for those travelling north. Fortunately there was little traffic and we were able to cross over and park the car to take photos of the amazing coastline.
Not sure where the name "Devil's Staircase" came from!

Would hate to say how many times I’ve been to Kingston and didn’t know this track was here … some signage down on the flat would make more people aware of it … it’s a great track to walk; You definitely get a good workout !!!

    Great experience. Great scenery.
Did it as independent cyclists hiring the bikes & panniers from Mike Barnett at The Around the mountains cycle company. Mike organised comfort seats for the bikes and an extra front carrier on one of our bikes to take our tents. Mike also dropped our panniers off for us at the top of von hill on the first day. I am not a cyclist and really appreciated those things.
We camped the first night at the Mavora Lakes. This lake warm in comparison with lake Wakatipu.
We rode to Mossburn Railway hotel on the 2nd day. Great pub to stay at.
Nice rooms. Nice hot shower. Great food.Sky tv for the rugby.
We rode to Athol lodge on 3rd day. Lovely place to stay. Has fully equipped kitchen and warm fireplace in lounge. Great showers. We ate at the brown trout cafe in the village.
    Beautiful dinner.
Last day we rode to Kingstown. Quick dip in Lake Wakatipu and then met the around the mountains shuttle bus organised by Mike. On the bus was our packs which Mike had stored for us whilst we were on the bikes. We were then driven back to Queenstown and given plenty of time to empty the gear from our panniers into our packs before being dropped at the airport with time to spare before our flight out at 6:10pm.

We experienced headwinds on our 1st and 3rd days which were tough for us. On the 3rd day we had a tailwind leaving Mossburn which has the nickname of windburn. That blew us down the path. Pure luxury.

This ride for me was awesome. I have done 3 other great rides over the last 5 years. Otago rail trail, Timber trail and the mountains to sea. The varied scenery from Lake crossing to majestic mountains to Lake camping to small towns to rural farmland make this my favorite so far. The wind made it hard but in a way added interest for me.
The Around the mountains cycle company headed by Mike Barnett really helped us in every way they could to have a great time. I am grateful.
My mate and I are mid 50's blokes mates who try to do an adventure away in February each year.
This trip was challenging, fun and refreshing..Perfect for us at our stage of life

We enjoyed a wonderful steam train journey from Kingston to Fairlight. The carriages are lovely and scenery fantastic. There is a nice cafe at Kingston. Would definitely recommend but check in advance what days it is in operation.

My husband went out for the day today, and he had the time of his life. This is single handedly the greatest thing he has ever done and has not shut up about it, and probably won't for the next year. He said it was run so well, and Hamish and the team were fantastic. Highly recommend. You won't be disappointed. Thank you for bringing something so great to this part of the world.
