Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- Karen KPuerto Morelos, Mexico1 contributionThis park has become quite pricey. Parking is now $20 flat rate for 4 or more hours! Washrooms are far away and park is not handicap accessible.
Rental of a shared area in the pavilion with a small charcoal bbq is pricey too.
But- our family (52 of us came this year) had a great time and the kids love the splash pool.Written 28 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - DOO-TOOttawa, Canada92 contributionsA short but very informative tour of the Laura Secord House. The tour guide we had really knew her history. Thank you for a nice time.Written 24 September 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Julie FGrimsby140 contributionsThe lilacs have bloomed early this year (was there today/May 8th) and there were a few that have already turned brown. Most were in full bloom and absolutely gorgeous! The smell when you got between the rows of bushes was absolutely heavenly. Apparently there are 200 varieties of lilacs here. I am not sure I saw that many but definitely a wide range of colours. I saw mauve, white, light pink, dark pink, purple and burgundy ones! I have never seen so many lilacs in one place in my life! Parking was free and it was so beautiful! Highly recommend a trip here! It's across from the Floral Clock area where there were still cherry blossom trees in bloom and beautiful tulips as well. The Floral Clock was all soil sadly but hopefully they will plant the flowers soon. It's always beautiful in the summer. The lilacs were definitely the highlight. It's too bad they don't stay in bloom long!Written 8 May 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- PhotoDudeIIIToronto, Canada125 contributionsTucked away in the corner of the village of Queenston is a small but very interesting museum. The purpose of the museum is two-fold: a history of William Lyon Mackenzie, who published his anti-establishment newspaper here for a short time before moving to Toronto (and getting into lots of trouble), and the history of printing press. Both are dealt with well. The history of the printing press, with vintage machines, is demonstrated up to the modern age. The tour guide gives a detailed account of how they worked, and the changes in technology that allowed going from 200 copies to 200,000 copies or more. It gives you an appreciation on how hard it was to produce something we take for granted. If you're into historical museums, this won't disappoint.Written 5 August 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - LibertyStreetMilford, MI180 contributionsMy sister noticed the museum as we drove by and had to stop. In this case it was a good call. $10 admission. A three-generational art exhibit on display, curated by the Ottawa Art Gallery, and beautifully done. There is is also an interesting library in the lower level and a nice view of the river from the backyard. The staff was enthusiastic and friendly. We enjoyed our time there.Written 20 May 2023This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- operalover939Toronto, Canada2,936 contributionsThe important contribution made by the indigenous peoples to the British and allied side in the Battle of Queenston Heights has long been known to historians of the period, but not to the general public. The Commemorative Memorial that was added in 2016 serves as a welcome addition to the park.Written 2 September 2020This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Maurene_KDover, NH12,283 contributionsVisiting Canadian friends with friends from home, we were taken here as part of a daytrip of sightseeing. Our Canadian friends had arranged a guided tour in advance.
The mansion is one of many attractions on the Niagara Parkway. It is located in the Village of Queenston, a community within the Town of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
The setting was impressive. It was high on a hill that overlooked the Niagara River and the Canada-United States border.
During our tour, the guide told us everything about the architect, builder, original owner, and the history of the mansion and how it came to be the site of the School of Restoration Arts at Willowbank.
Willowbank had an interesting history. The mansion was designed by John Latshaw, an acclaimed architect. It was built for Alexander and Hannah (Jarvis) Hamilton. He was the Canadian Alexander Hamilton, not the American Alexander Hamilton, one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. This Alexander Hamilton was a businessman, militia officer who fought in the War of 1812, justice of the peace, office holder, and judge. At the time of construction, he was First Sheriff of the Niagara District. Hamilton wanted all the latest technologies; and, so his mansion had the first wood stoves in Upper Canada.
We learned that Willowbank was built of local whirlpool sandstone. One of the unique features of the mansion is that it has eight hand-carved columns that stand two full stories tall of the home’s 3-1/2 story height. Another outstanding feature was the front doorway which is considered to be a masterpiece of classical Greek Revival design.
The mansion was later sold a century later to the Bright family, who made many renovations. Later it became a Catholic school for boys. Then a developer named Doyle acquired the property and filed for a demolition permit. The Friends of Willowbank was formed and successfully rescued the mansion in 2003. That group subsequently created the School of Restoration Arts at Willowbank.
During our tour, we admired the meticulous restoration work both competed and still in process.
I particularly liked the English wallpaper with an outdoor scene and the views from the porch out back.
The mansion is open for tours in the summer and in the fall and winter seasons by appointment.
This attraction is a must-see for those interested in architecture, stately old mansions, and history.
We rate Willowbank National Historic Site of Canada at 4.50. We recommend a tour.

In 1812, she rescued her husband from the battlefield at Queenston Heights. In 1813, she walked 30 kilometers from Queenston to Beaver Dams, near Thorold, to warn James Fitzgibbon Americans were planning to attack his outpost. She is suitably remembered with this monument at Queenston Heights.Written 26 May 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. - Ruby WGrimsby, Canada196 contributionsWent to the course to try it out and get in some practice before a tournament. Went mid week to play 9 holes, which is all the course is. However two holes have two flags to shoot for on the green.
There is some water on the course that makes some holes a bit more challenging.
The course is well worth the visit for all but the pros.
It is reasonably priced. They have a snack bar and rent golf carts.Written 8 October 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. We've been on several of these speed boats through the years, and this was the best one we've ever done. If you only do one thing while you are visiting the falls, this is the one I would recommend.Written 26 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC.
