We arranged an airport shuttle, the turtle release tour and the this tour with Luis de la Maza. I am very impressed with the courtesy, timeliness and enjoyable conversations that we had with his employees. For the Archaeological tour, our guide was Paco (Frank). What an absolute gem! We were a total of 7, (4 from our party and another party of 3) and we were picked up in a very comfortable (and cool) mini bus. The trip to Xihuacan was about 40 minutes from Zihua and Paco filled the time with interesting facts about Mexican culture and history. He said that he has 35 years as a certified tour guide and he could answer every question we asked - so impressed! Our first stop was at the museum. Paco went into great detail about the exhibit. His Mexican pride and enthusiasm emanated from his fascinating talks. From there, we walked to the ballfields and the temple. (I suggest sunscreen and bug spray as you will be walking through grassy areas and the rest of the site tour is unshaded.) It was very easy to navigate the temple with its flat, modern walkways and wide stairways. We then went into La Chole for some local sights, including a demonstration on cigar making and a brief visit to its local church. Lunch was at a roadside restaurant and was a great time to relax and find out more about our fellow travelers. I had a traditional beef dish and my sister had chicken fajitas, both of which were delicious. The hand made tortillas were to die for! Having mentioned that we were interested in getting some silver jewelry, Paco took us on a pit stop to one of the Zihua's jewelers. Paco is so accommodating, knowledgable and spoke excellent English and he certainly made this the most enjoyable tour.
