Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Fun little museum especially if you like pirate history. Not a lot to do in Nassau so definitely worth the $14 if you want to get off the ship and stretch your legs. We were there for about 45-60 minutes taking our time and reading everything.

I was not expecting a lot at the art museum for a small Caribbean nation that has only been independent for 50 years. But the colorful pieces here certainly evoke a Bahaman style. Most of the art has a victim and oppression theme, which is also fitting for a country that is both entirely dependent on yet loathes the tourists and the national subservience to tourist interests. While the Museum itself isn’t that big, they fill the walls with the art, though photos aren’t allowed. There is also a sculpture garden, but there are only a few, very abstract pieces here. It’s a one hour museum on the whole.

I took a landscape print class with Shanise and had a blast. She was a great instructor and helped me make some lovely keepsake prints that I will enjoy as a memory of my time in the Bahamas. Her class gave me just the right amount of instruction and freedom to be creative. I plan on signing up for more classes at the Current because they offered such quality instruction and a unique experience for part of my trip. It was a lovely offering for when I didn’t want to be out on a boat or in the water for a few hours! Many thanks to them!

It is worth the short trip from downtown to visit Junkanoo World. This is the real deal - run by a family who participate in Junkanoo. In fact, generations of their family have an organization that "rush" in Junkanoo. We learned the history, saw some of the spectacular costumes, and had a drum and cowbell lesson. It's a museum, but it's also the place where the group meets to design and make costumes. So much more of an authentic experience. My sister and I very much enjoyed our visit and meeting the family.

The Pompey Museum has two levels of exhibits: a permanent exhibit on slavery and emancipation in the Bahamas and a special one on the indigenous Lucuyans, who occupied the Bahamas until Columbus arrived and they were enslaved and died of diseases.

There is a lot of information here, but it’s mostly a museum of reading panels. The Lucuyan exhibit has a few pottery shards and flints, a replica barbecue and artists’ renderings of Luciyan culture. The slavery section had some disturbing manacles and coins used in slave auctions, a diorama of a shipwreck and many panels to read, as well as touchscreen monitors addressing different aspects of Bahamian history and culture. It only took 15 minutes to see the entire Lucuyan exhibit, but I spent an hour in the slavery exhibit.

The Museum is also housed in the building where they conducted slave auctions, one of the oldest in Nassau.

This was a good museum to visit on my first day in Nassau because it was so informative about the history, but it was more like reading a Wikipedia article than a true museum.

One of the highlights of our trip. Got to learn about this Bahamian culture: the history, the costumes, the music, the dedication and the amount of organization to make these “rushes” happen every year. Love it!!

This was part of our tour of Nassau. It was a “revolving house” which means you go from room to room and then end up at the start of the house again. The tour guide was very informative and she spoke loud enough for the entire group. Here we learned about the history of the Bahamas and the Bahamian people. Very informative tour.

We were introduced to hillside house gallery and bar by the Bahamas food tour and could not wait to come back.

Relaxed vibe, great food. Wonderful chat at the bar with Chris at the end of the evening.

Best bar in Nassau. Thanks team!

Directly behind the pink Parliament buildings. Small & confined, but rich in Bahama history, and unfortunately I did not go in on this visit, but from past experience, library has/had 2 computers you can use to connect to the internet for $1.
Nice place to stop in for short visit.

Tucked away down a side street, this art gallery and crafts studio is line a mini Bahamian oasis. Beautiful, locally made paintings, wood carved bowls and arts and crafts. Make sure you chat with the staff working there, who have amazing backstories about the art and crafts they sell.

We were fortunate to arrive at the same time as the BHS's director, a charming, engaging and very knowledgeable guide to the collection and Bahamian history. I doubt we would have been able to get such an in-depth introduction to the people and places by simply viewing the exhibits (although many of them are very informative). Still, I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to anyone interested in learning about the Bahamas, including the connections with the US over the centuries. We spent about an hour there and learned a lot.

An unexpected pleasure. Small gallery of exquisitely curated pieces, produced a powerful exhibit. Highly recommend a 15-30 minute stop here.

It is well worth a visit here to see the original documents documenting the history and culture of The Bahamas. Doing some research in advance is always worthwhile. It can help you work out what records will be useful to you, save you from wasting time during your visit, or even stop you from making an unnecessary journey. So check out heir website, face book page or send an email in advance to find out if they have what you are looking for.

We were short on time so we just took a long walk past it. What beauty! The place could compete with Windsor with it's lovely florals. Such elegance in the structure as well.

One of the best things about PopOp is that artists rent studio space and even live there in the main building. Whenever there is a special exhibit (as opposed to the artwork that normally adorns the walls), the artists are there to talk with you and explain their works, which are usually very creative and avant garde. John Cox, the owner/artist/ curator of BahaMar, is not often on property because of the work he's doing for BahaMar (soliciting and coordinating all the artwork for this massive new Cable Beach megaresort, where all the art in every room of every building will have been done by a Bahamian artist). This is not surprising, because The Bahamas seems to grow artists! (COB is doing a great job in this field.) However, if you are lucky, you may see Kendal Hanna, a living legend abstract expressionist par excellence, who lives in one of the out-buildings on the PopOp property. By the way, some of the artworks are outdoor installations, so be sure to look around.
