Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a great museum. Such a rich and varied history of the area. We would happily recommend. We bought some lovely things in the gift shop and had coffee in the cafe.

This wonderful short walk receives a lot of praise and deservedly so as one of NZ great short walks.
Pros: - outstanding views from the clifftops of up and down the coast
-clifftop is an easy walk despite the initial steep climb for about 15 minutes
    -great look out points
-ancient pohutukawa trees on the slopes
-beach walk return if you manage the tides correctly(you need to walk 3 hrs either side of low tide to do a loop)

Cons: - some may find the stony beach return a scramble over rocks as challenging
    - signage for the start of the walk not evident but all you need to remember is that you have to start the walk by walking on the beach first for about 15-20 minutes then head up to the cliffs
    - the many steps may cause some issues for some walkers but they are good steps and shouldn't be an issue (moderate fitness)

Takes 2-3 hours depending on how long you spend looking and taking photographs. If you do the clii top and beach return or vice versa its about 5 KS
Tip- always wear proper hiking shoes on these walks as we saw others come to grief in everyday runners etc

So there is a fantastic surf beach, which you are able to walk dogs down one end and then there is the estery which is a safe place for families with younger children. Could see that parking would be an issue in summer.

We enjoyed the local, laid back feeling of the market. Being July it was not super busy, but still a 15min wait for coffee. There was a reasonable selection of goods and food on offer - Paula and mussel fritter, breads, dips, cheeses and fresh veges. The seated area has a great view over the estuary

Behind the Mangawhai Tavern this weekly market had a great selection of arts, crafts and food on offer. Fresh vegetables, artisan bread, cured meats and cheese. Every Saturday 8.30am - 1pm

Popped in to this local art gallery and met Sarah, the artist. She paints very brightly coloured pieces of birds, trees and local landscapes. Lovely lady. I bought some cards with her art printed on as we had no room for a canvas.

Played this course with some family. It’s a very challenging track that got the better of me. You would think it would be fairly easy but it’s not. It’s an interesting track with some lovely holes. It’s the type of course that if they had lots of money to spend to improve the overall condition - shaping holes and changing some contours etc, it’s would race up the ratings. I’ll be back one day for sure to take it on again.

Was staying in Mangawhai for a week and decided to take some overseas visitors who were with us for a drive around. Came across Te Whai and pulled in for a wine tasting. During the tasting we were offered platters which we chose from a menu and enjoyed some lovely cheeses and smoke meats to have with the wine.
Some delicious wines, we ended up taking a bottle home with us.
Lovely way to spend an afternoon with some friends

Completed the instructor traineeship with Aotearoa Surf in Dec 2023/Jan 2024 and had an awesome time! The crew is truly amazing - taught me so much about instructing and made me feel right at home from the start. And as promised, I'm leaving with the ISA level 1 done - and loads of memories. Gonna miss this place, thanks again!
