Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Thousands of years of history viewed from above: the place calls itself Middle Ages
but from the top we saw a baroque church and in the distance a hilltop that I swear is remnants of a Neolithic ruins. The castle spans the Middle Ages through the Renaissance.

Parking and finding a restaurant were stress free mid week in October and the temperature was divine. Not sure that would hold in peak season.

Not something you come across everyday, a church at the top of a huge mountain range! It was a shame the doors were not open to the public..

We first visited the castle in 1996 and were the only people there. Now there are a few restaurants, some souvenir shops and more tourists with difficult parking. The drive up the mountain is not for the faint hearted and the climb to the castle more difficult for my old body.

The original village of Calascio is higher up on the hill, when coming down from the fort you pass through it. This was abandoned, however, some houses are being renovated and turned into guesthouses and hotels. Further down is the current village of Calascio, the upper part of which has many abandoned buildings that are falling apart. Lower down, the buildings are better maintained. However, this is certainly less nice a village than either Santo Stefano di Sessiano or Castel del Monte, both of which are nearby. The reason to come to Calascio is to visit the fort, Rocca Calascio, on top of the hill.
