Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The gorge is on state highway 2, on the way to Mt Manganui. It is nice drive through great scenaries from Auckland. During summer times, it is better to get there by 10.30am as parking becomes hard later in the day.
Once there, there are few walkways that provides a bit of history on gold mining which is very interesting.
The walk is not too hard, there are some caves which need a torch.
There is a Small but beautiful stream near the car park.
Close to the gorge, 5 mins away there is a small but beautiful waterfall.
It would be good to take some food and enjoy the moment of serenity.

So many walks and cycle tracks to explore. The hard part is deciding which one. The walk to the tunnel is well maintained and relatively easy to navigate, but small children need supervision as very close to the fast moving water. The tunnel is 1km long and semi lit, didnt need a torch. Takes about 20 minutes to walk through and there are toilets on the otherside that are really clean. Lovely views and tracks, wish we had more time to explore more of them. The car park gets full quickly but here is another one 350m up the road. Some great information boards.

We took a significant detour on our trip to do this and it was totally worth it. Awesome fun. Thanks to Craig and team. Really engaging experience, and having a great cafe there too. Recommend you do it. Cant wait to do it again. For my teenage son it has been the highlight of our 2 week road trip around the North Island
