Cannot speak highly enough about Real NZ's overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound in NZ. We were on the Navigator. The crew, the food, the scenery, the weather (lucky us) were all stellar, truly. I would say this was a trip of a lifetime.

Real NZ does a fantastic job -- everything from the first leg across Manapouri Lake, to the informative and fun bus driver across Wilmot Pass, to the excellent cruise in the fjord to the Tasman Sea and back. The captain was an expert navigating the swells and tides. The crew was friendly, helpful, gracious. And Dev the naturalist provided great commentary and education. Thank you all, Navigator staff!

Fiordland Navigator - Milford Sound, Fiordland & Stewart Island over-night cruise was a fantastic experience, not to be missed. Twin-berth en-suite rooms were nice, clean and comfortable, with complementary tea/coffee in the main lounge/dinning area.

Water activities (kayaking & swimming) were made available by the ships crew, before the evening, taken up by the majority of guests.

Meals/snacks provided on-board were all really good - a variety to cater a wide range of tastes. The ships crew then go into action after the evening meal (~20:00-hrs), cleaning/tidying up in preparation for breakfast - great TEAM work!

Only criticism was the Navigator Drinks Menu, which was ridiculously expensive: NZ$80 (~£35) - NZ$100 (~£45) for a bottle of red wine. Been on over a dozen sea cruises around the world, and was never asked to pay anywhere near those prices for a decent bottle of red wine.

In January my husband and I did the overnight kayak tour. It was fantastic two days! We were very lucky with the weather - bright and sunny the first day and rainy the second. Yes, rain is good, as it results in a gazillion waterfalls streaming off the cliffs into the sound. The kayaks and other equipment provided were in good repair, and the paddling clothing was appropriate and covered both the warm and cold days. Our guide Blake was super friendly. He brought hot drinks and biscuits for us, making the lunchtime stop on our first day that much nicer. Blake is also very knowledgeable about plants, and he took us on a short walk from the hostel to introduce us to some of them. The hostel is well equipped for cooking, and the rooms were comfy enough. We also got to meet the local friendly kea Ben. The only downside was the sandflies - bring good repellent!
