Interesting city with close proximity to Mt Taranaki and the wonderful Pukeiti Park on the mountain's foothills. Cycling the coastal track is a must do as is a visit to the Govett-Brewster/Len Lye museum. Locals are friendly and hospitable.

Beautiful and diverse plantings, both native and exotic; many walks and tracks, some easy and some more challenging. We spent almost an entire day there. Highly recommended.

Brilliant for exercise, whether you go to the pools turn around and go back, or do the full loop. Great and easy track to do, and some parts do seek photo opportunities when people want to.

Wow. What an experience summiting Mount Taranaki! Definitely one I will never forget. Would recommend leaving early as it's a long day! ( We left around 7am and got back around 4.30pm)
Take poles! ( Much needed for the scree to save tears)
Gloves (useful for the sharp rocks)
And check the weather!! We got lucky with a stunning day, no snow or ice and no extra layers were needed but I got sunburnt going down. Although I had packed a coat and jumper just incase the weather quickly changed.
It's an amazing day with each section bringing new challenges. I found going down just as hard ( if not harder) than going up so make sure to save some energy! Enjoy!

Just a brief shout out to the lovely Sophie. Sorted out a 'surprise' gift for my sister, who was recently staying at the Forgotten World Motel. My sister celebrated her 60th birthday with a trip to the Forgotten World Highway. Sophie went the extra mile to organise a wee surprise for her, on my behalf. This customer service was just fantastic and added to the wonderful experience my sister and her family had whilst staying. Thanks again Sophie.

Pukeiti has so many interesting walks to choose from. I did the Rhododendron walk. If you don’t like inclines then this isn’t the walk for you. There are quite a few inclines but the good news is when you go up the only way back is?There you go, you’ve got it down. This time of the year, obviously some of the flowers are not in bloom. However the plants themselves alone are beautiful and exquisitely colourful, as the sun poetically hits the trees, dancing and bouncing off these glorious various and vast plant life. this is fantastic walk based in Taranaki and it’s so easy too get to. The drive up is beautiful and I will definitely encourage you to go because there’s so many different walks. You can do your walk your way, run, jog slow walk whatever and however you want to do it. In groups, duo’s or solo. Everybody can go up and have a really nice walk. Different paths some lengths marked others not. Lots of mocks and crannies to either rest or just take in nature which will be surrounding you. The sign post don’t lead you back to coffee shop so make sure you log your way. A massive tick is at the end of it all you get refreshments at the cafe, Cafe opens at 10am and shuts at 4pm. I highly recommend x10

This place is fantastic. We spent nearly 4 hours here one weekend and the time just raced by. The attention to detail on the models and dioramas is amazing. The more you look the more you see and what a great way to bring history to life.
The scale of what is on offer is truly stunning. You enter the Farmpower hall and it just keeps going and going.
All of the staff were super engaged and friendly and we enjoyed our conversations. The Traders and Whalers exhibition is fun and the coffee and cake at Mr Badger's Cafe was a welcome treat after wandering around.
And how nice to pop into the gift shop and find the guy working behind the till is the one that built all of the models!
It's a place that probably warrants coming back to as there is just so much to see and do.

Love this little zoo. What a gem..the kids enjoyed the playground and getting close to the capybaras. The zoo staff were friendly and the animals seemed happy and really well looked after. The animals had lovely enclosures that looked stimulating and well looked after. We'll be back again.

Excellent walk - definitely harder than it looks. You can walk up to a point before it becomes almost a rock climb which is not suitable for quite young children. There is definitely risk involved but the views are incredible. Even at the point where you either turn back or clamber up the rocks - the view is sensational. Not suitable for anyone who is mobility impaired but the carpark area at the bottom would be a good alternative for those people. Definitely a must!

With fantastic views of scenery and being engulfed into nature. It’s a good hike/walk to the falls. With clear signage around. Just take the steep stairs with caution.

Beautiful area to walk our dogs and children before our long journey home. There was a coffee cart along the walk too which had fantastic smoothies and hot chocolates.
This bridge is gorgeous and on a day without clouds, when standing at the northern end of the bridge you can see Mt Taranaki through the arches. Made for an epic photo!

Puke Ariki had amazing displays and interactive experiences. It's easy to get to being in the centre of New Plymouth town and there was no entry charge. It was so worthwhile spending time there.

Beautiful well kept gardens. A lot of tender loving care has gone into maintaining this garden in its pristine condition. We enjoyed exploring the grounds and reading about the history about the house. A lovely stroll amongst native trees and planted gardens, crossing a bubbling little stream and its free of charge too.
Highly recommended when visiting New Plymouth.
    We'll be back.

Loved this walk. Not many people doing it despite the beautiful, sunny day, so it was very peaceful. Good range of tracks through low-lying lush native bush to alpine grasslands to alpine rock vegetation. The tracks are well defined and marked. I heard that some of the tracks are going to be upgraded but we found them in good condition anyway, probably because the weather had been very dry. Having said that, you would want to be wearing decent hiking shoes or sturdy sneakers. Despite the beautiful weather, we definitely needed jackets at times - there are some exposed areas and the wind can pick up very suddenly. The short detour to the tarn was well worth it. Initially it looked very disappointing and then I realised that the reflections changed with every little light shift and it really did make for gorgeous photos. There's very little birdsong as you hike and we learned that predators have eradicated much of the bird life. There are pest traps (particularly for rats) at the sides of the tracks so we hope that this program is working and the mountain will be full of native birds again in years to come.

A beautiful historic cemetery in the heart of the city, telling the story of the settlement via a the people buried there. Established trees, gardens ,birds and a few rabbits! Well worth a quiet stroll around. Maintained by a valuable team of volunteers.
