Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- VidaJoiosaCastricum, The Netherlands406 contributionswhy not learn about the (pre)history of the area around, especially the dunes...
did you know the romans lived nearby, but also french, english and russian soldiers passed by. some nice events organised once and a while, whereas also a great archive plus archeology demo and courses. and anyway a small restaurant serving local specialities, even on a roofed terrace in summer. great architecture, watch those stone slabs on the walls, they contain real fossils from italian seas in the past. what a way spending your time, good choice! keep on walking to the sea, what a day.... enjoy!Written 20 January 2017This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. It must be extremely popular with elementary school classes during the school year. I looked at some of the books in the store and loved the books with bird sounds etc. It wouldn't have worked for me, but what an idea to come up with. Entrance is free. The books aren't.Written 20 September 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- Worldwide TravellerLondon, UK151 contributionsThis is a little cute place next to the rail tracks and located a short 5 minute walking distance from Castricum train station.
Entrance is free, make sure to check opening hours in advance. The people working there are very nice and kindly welcomed us. Our daughter enjoyed seeing chickens, ducks, sheep, pigs, rabbits and playing with the toys available on the ground.
You can get eggs and honey as a way to show some support in addition to enjoying a cup of coffee.
This is simply a great way to spend 1 hour with you little ones in this relaxing place while waving goodbye to the choo choo train.Written 24 August 2024This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. The garden called "De Tuin van Kapitein Rommel" features a large pond and a small wild flower meadow and can be seen in 30 minutes. In a small glass-house plants are for sale and the garden features a cafe. Kapitein Rommel(1889-1958)tried to have a trout pond next to his villa and the Castricum municipality bought the garden to make a bus station and later decided to restore the gardens as a municipal garden.Similar to this garden are the nearby gardens at Abdij Egmond Binnen(free entry) and the larger Hortus Alkmaar;a herb garden(4,50entry fee).

My friend had to bicycle back to the shop in the dark without working lights, risking his own safety and getting a fine. Then, because we were 6 minutes late returning the bike, she charged him for an additional day. When we told her that the bike was late due to us trying to get the lights on she informed us that, "it's the customer's responsibility to ensure the bike works properly." So, if you rent here be sure to check that the bicycle is fully functional before you ride away because she apparently does not take any safety measures into consideration. I will not be renting here again as a result.Written 15 August 2022This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
