Denis and his family were so welcoming, and the prosecco was to die for. They are super hospitable and Denis made the biggest effort to tell us all about his craft, the history of prosecco and got us to taste not only his superb wine but also local foods. I will certainly be back next time when I will be in Italy. It was worth the 300km detour, from Slovenia to the Dolomites.

This castello, built in the 13th century and renovated after the second world war, is a beautiful spot privately owned by an aristocratic family that still occupies part of the building. The castle has stunning views of surrounding area and these views alone are reason enough to visit. The castle frequently hosts cultural events but if none is going on during the time you visit the area, make a trip to see the views and walk the walls anyway - it's well worth it.

We toured on our own, since I was to organize a trip for 6 friends to travel the Strada del Prosecco. This was a fact finding mission and we went to visit all major places for wine tasting and came to Refrontolo, Soligo, Follo, San Stefano, San Pietro di Barbozza, Valdobbiadene and further on the Old Prosecco Street to Gua, Combai, Miane, Follina..etc.etc. The beautiful rolling hills and especially in the Cartizze area with the vineyards and wineries are spectacular. Can' t wait for the next time in September.

We took a tour of this winery while we were visiting the area. It was a very interesting place, with touches of both the old and the new. We learned about the history and particularly what happened in the area during the second world war. We also enjoyed some of their wine at a lovely lunch. This place is worth a stop if you are in the area.
