Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

- Karyn PAuckland Central, New Zealand80 contributionsCaught the Tranz-alpine train Christchurch to Greymouth and stopped at Lake Brunner [Moana] town, for a night. A really quiet spot - incredibly beautiful, especially Arnold river swing bridge. Visited in winter, and walked around the area, no pressure or stress in this place [only 60 locals]. Would love to go back in the summer. Only down side - they don't advertise tours to see the Kotuku bird [on $2 coin] as seen only in a few places in NZ. Also bring some yummy eats, very limited food options during winter. Local "everything" shop is a good 15-20 min walk.Written 21 July 2019This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- UKC0upleBarnsley, UK1,175 contributionsWe were on our way to the pancake rocks and blow holes in the paparoa national park when we were passing the lake at Moana, and stopped to wander round. Lake Brunner is the largest lake in the northwestern South Island of New Zealand, The lake's outflow is the Arnold River, a tributary of the Grey River. The Lake is becoming popular, in part due to its reputation for good fishing as we witnessed quite a lot of fishermen on our walk. Its some lovely mountain backdrops.Written 25 January 2018This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
- TomasKohoutPrague, Czech Republic6 contributionsI found this place by chance only when looking for some side road to Moana on my bicycle trip around New Zealand in summer 2007.
Place is amazing - it is called "Jack's Mill School Historic Area" and it's part of NZ herritage. The school yard area is covered by couple of the nice native and introduced plants.
The most amazing part of the exposition is the 3/4 sized model bungalow, designed, built and fully equipped by the furniture - all made by the primary school pupils under a guidance of the schoolmaster Mr. Darracott. A nice way how to educate young people frustrated by living in the remote and isolated area and give them a feeling of something meaningful. Another amazing fact is that a design of the bungalow has included many innovative features and ideas that were introduced in an architecture design in 1930 and later - and these ideas were independently discovered by by pupils not knowing these trends.
The area is free to visit and explore.Written 12 June 2016This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. Tripadvisor performs checks on reviews.
