About
Established in 2003, Elephant Hill is located within a stone’s throw of the Pacific Ocean on the idyllic Te Awanga coast of Hawke’s Bay on New Zealand’s North Island. The winemaking at Elephant Hill is driven by tradition while not losing sight of what innovation can bring to the blend. Our aim is to make wines that are balanced and elegant and a true expression of the vineyards they come from. Attention to detail, hard work and an absolute commitment to quality are the hallmarks of both our viticulture and winemaking.

Underwhelming
May 2021 • Couples
Service was average. Platter looked nice but ridiculously overpriced and a rip-off. We were highly recommended by friends who came with us. They could not believe the difference in the platter from the last time they went there but left feeling disappointed. None of us will return.

Wine tasting
Apr 2021 • Couples
Came for a wine tasting and had some beautiful snacks to go with. Really interesting to discover with Claire the different varieties. Loved the syrah, interesting sea label sauvignon blanc. Amazing wine knowledge of the staff. Great service, had a great time.

Arrived with high expectations

Service was great, wine poured was inequitable, platter provided was assured enough for three mmmm no... arrived with five slices of thin dry bread, pea shoots wilted and turning yellow and very predictable selection of produce all in all pour value for $46. Will we be back no.... discussed our disappointment on leaving

Hoped for wine tasting
Feb 2021 • Couples
Had hoped for a wine tasting but found the staff member quite unhelpful and they walked off! We thought you could only have tasting with food. Anyhow the surroundings were exceedingly modern, crisp and clean and probably we didn’t fit!

Great spot for a relaxing wine
Nov 2020 • Couples
This was our first visit but it certainly won’t be our last.
As soon as we arrived the friendly team couldn’t have done more. A great table on the terrace with beautiful views over the vines out to sea and Cape Kidknappers. The cheese and meat platters we had were great as was the reserve Chardonnay.
Thank you so much for a great afternoon we will be back

Fantastic wine experience

Fantastic wine experience. We were expertly guided by Tom through their delicious wines with a beautiful view over their vines. Highly recommend making a booking to taste their wines and enjoy their spot in Te Awanga

Strikingly beautiful winery that offered excellent tastings and a luncheon that was Memorable
Mar 2020 • Friends
Our visit in mid march happened while the COVID-19 virus was just becoming a concern in New Zealand, we were able to do a tasting and observing proper spacing we enjoyed a lovely lunch at the winery. I look forward to seeing this wine get distributed in the United States - I would happily seek future bottles of their pinot gris and pinot noir. To all the lovely people at the winery, Thank you to the staff at Elephant Hill for a memorable day in the Hawks Bay region and I hope everyone stays safe out there.

Won't Be Back!
Feb 2020
Ok I'm not one to give a bad review on a whim and just so you know I've been to quite a few very nice wineries around the world. So this place looked great and rated well so we stopped in for a bottle of wine and MAYBE some food. Decided to just have a $29 bottle of Rose to start with then be told we couldn't sit by the pool as that was for diners only so we just sat outside the main door, which was fine. When the waiter bought an extra chair out he advised that there would be an extra charge to sit and drink the wine, but didn't say what ...very strange but we thought 'OK' it'll be a few dollars each ...anyway we decided after a glass that the rose wasn't the greatest and very dry so we would drink the other half later and went up to pay. The bill was $60!!!! That is $31 extra to the price of the wine on the wine list. $10 each to sit and drink a horrible wine with minimal service... appalling! They seemed very pompous and not interested in us in the slightest, even though we could have decided to spend a few hundred on lunch if they had been more welcoming.. so we definitely won't be going back! Very bad first impression...

Nice estate, good wines and snacks, service to be improved
Jan 2020
Very nice estate near the coast, surrounded by their vines. Very nice architecture. Welcome was not very friendly, restaurant/tasting room manager was not very welcoming. Our tasting staff however compensated the cool welcome with lots of friendliness and competent guidance. The wines are very good, however quite pricey. The ordered snacks were excellent. Worth going there.

An amazing wine tasting experience
Jan 2020 • Couples
We visited Elephant hill while doing a tour of the area on bikes. Out of the winery’s we visited, elephant hill was the best by miles. Fantastic selection of wines and beautiful to walk around. Our tasting was by Claire and this is the reason why it blew everyone else out of the water. An amazing asset to the winery. Very knowledgeable even though she says she is still learning after 6 years. Claire was funny, professional and extremely helpful. We would return just to try more wines with Claire. Thank you for a great visit
