“Where else in the world can you jump on the back of a trailer and get towed along the beach by a 1949 Minneapolis-Moline tractor to a bird colony?” Established in 1952, Gannet Beach Adventures has a long history of providing tours on a spectacular stretch of the Hawke’s Bay coastline, from Clifton to Cape Kidnappers. This unique, fun eco-experience tour involves travel with local experienced guides by vintage tractors and trailers on a comfortable four-hour adventure to the largest mainland gannet colony in the world. Departing on the days’ low tide, visitors travel by tractor and trailer along the majestically rugged coastline. Photographic opportunities abound as stops are made throughout the journey giving visitors an insight into how nature’s forces have shaped this amazing area.

This day started out early at 7 am being on a trailer but it was definitely worth it! Amazing views with the gannet colony being the highlight. Great guide and the four hours went in a heartbeat.

This was the third time we had visited the gannet colony: first time (we were a lot younger and fitter) we walked there and back. Second time we went by tractor along the beach with our children. This time it was tractors again, but with...More

Brilliant way to take a family group along the beach to the cape. Beautifully perfect weather definitely an important factor as no shelter arrangement on the trailers. We took a group of 10+ . Plenty of room on a trailer for the people and a...More

This was well organised and fun, lots of families and couples as well as larger groups all easily accommodated. Make sure you take plenty of water/drinks, you can take a cooler box. Obviously the need for sunscreen and suitable clothing, but if it’s sunny take...More

Lots of fun had by our two little girls as we sashayed down the beach aboard tractor trailers. We strapped on our carseat to the trailor for our youngest (1.5yrs old) while our 2.5yr old sat against the side wall. A beautiful cool breeze on...More

Great day of tractor and trailer, ride out to Gannett colony was entertaining by the tractor drivers who also gave interesting information of geological history of cliffs. Then there was a 30 minute trek up hill ( take water). It is steep but worth the...More

We took this trip on a very hot afternoon. Really enjoyed the tractor ride and commentary from very friendly drivers. Steep climb at end of the beach up to the gannet colonies. We were well informed about what to expect and bring but not advised...More

This attraction is so much fun, very educational and the scenery is nothing short of spectacular. From the moment we got on to the trailers, which incidentally were way more comfortable than I anticipated, we all had a wonderful experience to remember. The grandchildren loved...More
