Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

we stayed at Coopers beach, which you cant see from the road but is beautiful, great swimming, and lots of trees at the edge of the beach for some shade.

The gateway to this enchanting bay is Mangonui. Sitting on the dock of the bay, pardon the reference, is a thought filled pleasure. The town is one of the oldest port habitation that sits astride the picturesque natural harbour. Fishing is avidly perused here, evidenced by the numerous presence of boats. The town has a real heart and functions as a centre for the local community

Awesome beaches. Fabulous bays, friendly local people. Seriously no awesome restaurants open at night, very disappointing. If you come make sure you get a self-contained accommodation.

Went to Matai Bay (a must do) then visited this incredible spot. Great views and place to relax. It is so big that you will have no trouble finding your own private spot to take it all in.

Doubtless Bay encompasses quite a large coastal area, from Mangonui, through to Coopers Beach, Cable Bay, Taipa and then out along Karikari Peninsula.
Along Karikari Peninsula is the expansive Tokerau Beach, Matai Bay, Karikari Beach, and Rangiputa.
There is great fishing to be had either via a charter boat or surfcasting from some of the beaches. If you are into fishing I highly recommend calling into Reel Rods which is on Inland Road, the main road into Karikari Peninsula just opposite the turn off to Rangiputa and just before the Tokerau Beach settlement. This is a fantastic shop for all your fishing needs.
Coopers Beach has a small supermarket which is very handy for topping up supplies.
Gas stations are in Coopers Beach and Taipa.
As a fisherman and a photographer I love this area.

Our friends took us to the beaches here and it was so beautiful. The color of the water is so lovely. The sand is soft and fine. This would be an ideal picnic location.

Doubtless Bay has a beautiful coastline of 70 klms. This is such a pretty remote part of New-Zealand. There is so much to see and do, picturesque harbors, golf courses, surfing, swimming, fishing, winery's, museums. Lots of varying accommodation. Many beaches to see and explore and many great little cafes and eateries a must see has many beautiful beaches and bays. So remote and heaps to do, diving, kayaking, sailing, snorkeling, boat charters, diving, winery's, make sure you see Whatuwhiwhi, Puheke Beach, Rangiputa Beach, Coopers Beach you will have a little portion of your travel on unsealed roads to these beaches but well worth it.

Beach at Karikari peninsula and not a soul in sight. A short walk through the dunes and this is your private paradise. I fell in love with this area after watching a drone vid by wasp drone photography and just had to see it for myself. Was not disappointed. This is my favorite NZ beach for its beauty and wildness

The KariKari peninsular takes about 4 - 4.5 hours to drive from Auckland without stopping. You might need to stop as the roads are so winding and take seem to take a long time.

Things to do in Kari Kari peninsular: Swim in Maitai Bay, freedom camp in Doubtless Bay, do a wine tasting at KariKari estate - while watching the sunset over the entire north land, swim in the coca cola lake

The most incredible beaches to go freedom camping on and an amazing place to experience a local vibe. This was one of our favorite destinations on our entire trip of the North Island.

Freedom camping can basically be done anyway if you are fully self contained (shower & toilet on board).
