Only popped in for local info but found a very good museum on site that is well worth a look around. In particular it offers an insight into the history on mining in the area.

This is the perfect place to learn about the area. The small museum is really well set out to show how the mining in the area affected the land and people. We understand that the exhibits are changed regularly which is great for both locals...More

The worst and least helpful information centre I've experienced in NZ. The two ladys running the centre on a Sunday seemed very unenthusiastic about working that day. I had visited the centre in hope of some information on the Central Otago region, and advice for...More

If you have time to spare drop into this great little museum behind the i-site and find out about NZs big gold rush in the 1860s. Very good facts and lots of old machinery to interest one.
