About
Trail Journeys has operated on the popular Otago Central Rail Trail (New Zealand's Original Great Ride) since the rail trail began in 2000. We’ve helped thousands of independent travellers put together great tour itineraries tailored to their special interests, budgets and time constraints. We are Qualmark certified meaning you can be assured of a quality experience in all aspects of your tour. With depots at both ends of the trail, a large fleet of specifically developed bikes, vans and buses and experienced drivers and guides, we make your journey on our Rail Trail comprehensive and effortless. While cycling might form the core activity on your tour, we can incorporate other activities such as Motorsport, 4WD adventures, Curling, Farm visits and many more. As well as operating on the famous Otago Central Rail Trail we also operate on the Queenstown Trails, Roxburgh Gorge Trail & Clutha Gold Trail all with their own unique beauty and history.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Wow, the most amazing service from Rebecca and the team at Trail Journeys. I rang up to enquire about renting bikes and the shuttle for the Dunstan Lake trail from Cromwell to Clyde, for the next morning. Rebecca was all positive, despite having a full booking load (xmas holiday season), and managed to accommodate us.
The ebikes we rented were very good quality, one of the best we've rented so far on our travels. The staff were good at kitting us out, and the shuttle to the start in Cromwell was clean and the van driven safely.
Best of all? Their prices are really competitive. NZD$99 for a whole day ebike rental, plus one-way shuttle. Anyone doing the Lake Dunstan cycle trail, I highly recommend checking out Trail Journeys. Their website is a bit difficult to use, so just call their Clyde office and hopefully you'll get Rebecca helping you out.

Great day with super friendly & helpful staff.
Rebecca is lovely and gave good information on best sections to take that extra time taking in the stunning scenery; James made sure my bike was comfortable and supplied a bigger bag attached to the bike so no need to carry a backpack which makes cycling way more cruisey.
David the driver is full of local knowledge giving me insight into the little towns we drove through on the way.
Highly recommend a delicious lunch stop at Pitches Store in Ophir and squeezing in at least one wine tasting on the way back to make the most of being in the Central Otago wine regions. I went to Ruru Vineyard & Monte Christo Winery.
This cycle package provides a perfect day from start to finish.

This is a must to do Trail in New Zealand by far the best and most enjoyable trail or road cycling I have ever done, Lake Dunstan and the Roxburgh Gorge.
Not all easy going so I would highly recommend an Ebike and would suggest you do need some bike skills to do Lake Dunstan. After the first two days more relaxed riding along the Clutha River and just as amazing as first two days.
I would highly recommend Tail Journeys, the bikes were well maintained and great to ride, with plenty of maps to get us to our daily destination.
Wonderful accommodation each day together bookings for our nightly meal. { Usually a small local Pub}

One of the best holiday adventures we’ve ever had. The Trail Journeys team provide a great service and experience with every detail sorted out for you.
The Central Otago Rail Trail scenery and the experience of the ride itself was spectacular.
Lake Dunstan is far more challenging and would recommend for fairly experienced riders.

What an adventure! We were a group of 14 with basic cycling skills - our agent Sue at Trail Journey's was amazing. On the Otago Rail Trail we had great accommodation, the suggestions for meal/tourist stops were excellent. On the trip back to Clyde we realised how far we had travelled. Would definitely recommend Trail Journey's to organise this 4 day cycle trip for a group.

For those working in Auckland, considerations such as the weather, physical stamina, flight tickets, and transportation to and from starting points make it impossible to just pack up and go like a young backpacker. We are deeply grateful to Santra for carefully planning the most suitable itinerary for our short holiday. We also want to thank our kind drivers, Mike and Brian, with special appreciation to Mike for sharing the history and Maori cultural legends of the various places along the way. Thank you all for giving us an unforgettable journey!

What an experience! Great organization and staff were really helpful. We loved every minute of it, even the scary bits!
Although, the day we biked from Oturehua to Chatto Creek on the rail trail, could have started earlier as we found it quite rushed after visiting the Hayes Museum. (we got transported to Oturehua by the shuttle and didn't arrive there until 10am or after).
Otherwise, such an amazing trip, would definitely recommend!

The customer service was excellent from the front of house staff and the back of house team. The bikes were very good and suitable for the Dunstan and Roxburgh trails that we rode. All in all a great experience at a great price.😀🚴♀️

We recently returned from A2O cycle from Mt Cook to Oamaru with friends. We were a group of 6. The A2O is a truly unique and magical experience. From the dramatic backdrop of snow capped mountains, cycling along majestic lake views, grazing pastures and pathwork farmland, the vistas along this trail are breathtakingly beautiful. The team on the ground from Trail Journeys were exceptional in every way, friendly, attentive, responsive and extremely helpful. The accommodation and hosts we had the pleasure of staying with provided for the most memorable experience. Their hospitality and passion for what they do shone through and their shared knowledge of the local area and community added to the warmth and Immersive experience.
Sincere thanks to everyone from the TJ team and hosts, you certainly made for a memorable experience.

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent trip to Otago with the 5 day LDT and OCRT cycling trip being a highlight. Trail Journeys were so helpful and we would recommend them. Why? Because their communication is prompt, their bikes are good, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Both the LDT and OCRY trails are picturesque, with the LDT being quite challenging compared to the relatively easy (particularly with an e-bike) OCRY. We met some lovely people at the accommodation venues and at the hotels in the evening - this undoubtedly made the cycle trip particularly enjoyable for us.
