Lovely Architecture
Nov 2020
Very early into our ride and what a wonderful find, the start of so much to come. I had forgotten how lovely our own country is.

Handsome 19th century bridge
Nov 2020
A handsome walking suspension bridge (although early in its life it was for horse-drawn vehicles) with an interesting view into the amazingly bluey-greeny water of the Clutha and up to the mountain clock. Check out the explanatory board before marching across; particularly the amazing details on how high the floods of earlier years have reached. If you wander a few metres down the road you'll see the cute little book house shown in my photograph!

Iconic old bridge
Jan 2020
Visit here, look at the sadly depleted Maneureka river (like so many kiwi rivers now struggling to flow because so much water has been diverted to irrigation) then walk another 100m to the excellent Bella Vita bistro which overlooks it.

Pretty cool
Jan 2020
Been on more shakier bridges than this one, but still really cool. Especially given it's age and link with local history.

Worth a visit
Jan 2020 • Family
A very novel bridge that rocks and shakes as you walk across, as the name suggests. Makes for great photos and there is an excellent swimming spot in the Manuherikia River below. Great entertainment watching the locals jump off the bridge into the river.

Full of character
Nov 2019
Discovered this old bridge by accident whilst wandering around Alexandra following interesting-looking paths and streets. It is full of history and character so it is great that it was restored for use as a footbridge. The river looked a nice place to cool down in on a hot day, too, and on the other side of the bridge there is a cafe/restaurant. If you are a book reader walk up the hill a little way on Kerry Street on the town side and you will find a very cute little Lilliput Library on a resident's fence to swap your book for another one.

Proud to have this in our town
Apr 2019 • Couples
We've discovered this wee gem very late in the summer - being new to this town - wish we had found it earlier. In quite an 'out of the way' place, you should know that it is worth the effort of hunting it out and crossing the Bridge. There you will find a cosy indoor setting (pleasant outside too) with a proprietor who knows his stuff (wines and food) and has created a simple menu that covers all the bases. Obviously he loves his food and this is apparent when your plate arrives. We highly recommend and are proud to have this restaurant in our town. May the locals support and give him a great winter. Visit soon, we know you won't be sorry!

Relaxing
Mar 2019 • Couples
Worth a morning or evening stroll just for the relaxfulness that it seems to create. Doesn't go anywhere in particular but a nice peaceful place to visit.

Well worth a look
Dec 2018 • Family
On our way up to see the clock in the hill at Alexandra we stopped off to find the Shaky Bridge vineyard (awesome wine!) and discovered the actual shaky bridge where the name comes from.

With historic plates and interesting information you can walk this suspension bridge over the river.

My verdict: If you are in the area this is well worth a look and a quick walk across

What a setting matched by food and service
Dec 2018 • Couples
Yes the Shaky Bridge has reopened with new owners. You will not be disappointed. Impeccable food, not huge selection but all that you could possibly want. While we had a wait that was so worth it, a beautifully presented taste sensation. The coffee was just the way I like it strong and full of body. We even gave into temptation and enjoyed some beautiful cakes. We'll be back to enjoy what Kelly and partner have to offer.
