Found this spot by accident. Nice local birds with well thought out trails. $15 at sunrise his writing for trail access. Beautiful overlooks and a perfect sunset spot all to yourself. Food and bathrooms are available.

Discover el Valle Escondido for yourself!
Aug 2021 • Family
The preserve is gorgeous! You can easily walk the whole trail system quickly or take your time and savor each unique point along the way. Beautiful vistas of the valley, waterfalls, and cozy resting spots abound. It’s clear that a lot of thought, care, and hard work went into creating such a special place. Reward yourself with a drink and bite to eat at the restaurant afterwards!

Unique combination of farm and hotel and restaurant

A working permaculture farm. Makes the stay so much more interesting than a reality or hotel. Amazing view. Great food.

Nice Preserve in Santa Elena
Apr 2021
I went to this preserve as I could walk there from my hotel and the entrance fee was $15, while entrance to Monteverde Cloud Forest was $25 and I would have had to take a bus or shuttle to get there.

I walked around the perimeter of the preserve which was approximately 1.5 miles. The trail was in good shape and a decent workout due to the numerous steep sections. I was disappointed I did not see more wildlife, as I only saw birds, butterflies and several coatis. But I really enjoyed the scenery and the serenity, as I only saw one couple the entire hike.

Senda Monteverde
Dec 2020
The staff and service at Senda Monteverde was great. The cabins were comfortable, and the property was gorgeous and very well located, immersed in nature and the cloud forest. The food was exceptional. The added bonus was that Senda is right beside the fantastic Aguti Reserve, home to incredible tree formations and cloud forest vegetation, offering a wonderful hike. When we went, we were the only ones there. Complete privacy surrounded by nature.

Waterfall
Dec 2020
We were staying onsite so we were able to walk the trails multiple times during our stay at the inn. If you coming from elsewhere, you may want to precede your self-guided tour with either a permaculture tour in the morning or follow it with a night tour. There is also a cafe on site if you plan to spend the whole day here. Note: Valle Escondido and Hidden Valley are the same.

If you have the time and energy, you can hike down to a platform near the bottom of the waterfall. There are many stairs, so be prepared.

Beautiful Trails
Dec 2020 • Couples
A very well maintained park with beautiful trails and amazing view points. We saw coatis, a cappuchin, agoutis, squirrels, a motmot and plenty other birds. Take a map so you know exactely where you are and where to go. And plan some extra time for the hammock garden before you have a wood-ofen pizza in the cafe with view. BTW, ask for discount if you intend to order food afterwards. Great experience!

This place is fabulous..
Nov 2020
Spent our first 2 days in Costa Rica here. What a start to a great country. These guys embody it. A lovely preserve, permaculture property, with incredible trails right on the property. The are a few miles of single track thru the forest, over looking waterfalls, valleys, low mountians and view of the bay. Newly built fabulous platforms and viewing spots. Impressive the vision of the owner for this place. Owners are friendly, hands-on. Staff terrific and helpful. Did the night tour our first night with a local biologist who grew up with the property as her backyard. She knew everything about. Delightful and informative. Close to town and the 3 cloud forests and Selvatura. Don’t miss the sloth sanctuary, it’s new and they are sooooo cute. Didn’t plan to zip line but did, and it was a blast and a great view of the forest canopy. Very glad we did. Our family of 4 loved it all, stayed 2 nights, wish we had stayed 3!
