Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Ticket shop (women working their named Claudine was being extremely rude and making racist comments)
Mar 2020 • Friends
I’ve visited Montgenèvre with three friends this week and we all had tickets from the Galaxy Pass. Once we arrived there we all showed our tickets with our receipts. One of my friends was denied his ticket because his receipt was a bit ripped where it said Montgenèvre. But the thing is that they need to cut it off where it says Montgenèvre and it was definitely still there. When we all asked why he isn’t getting his ticket she said that he hasn’t got the right to get one because his receipt is apparently fake. We couldn’t believe what we’ve heard and we were asking for the manager. She then said that she is the manager (Claudine is her first name). I’m also writing to Montgenèvre to see if this is true. After discussing with her a few minutes she said that we should “f*** off back to Germany if we don’t like it here”. And after my friend then decided to just pay for the day ticket (which I wouldn’t have done) she said hope you’re having a nice day “a********”.
I’m honestly only writing this review because I couldn’t believe that someone working in a ticket shop believes to have the right to speak to clients like this. If she’s really the boss then I’m honestly praying to everyone working there because they must be called stuff like this on a regular basis.
That women really made that skiing day for my friends and me really unpleasant and I can’t recommend going there. Rather check out Serre Chevalier in Briançon. We had a way better skiing day there.

My teenage son paid for 2 ski passes for himself and his brother at the Tremplins ski pass machine on Fri 16 Dec. The money was taken from his card but no passes were issued. He went to the counter and the lady there agreed the machine was not working. She said she could not give him tickets and he would have to pay again. He had no more money in his bank account so that was not possible (leaving aside whether that was fair). He is not a French speaker and he called me, and the lady at the counter said I had to speak to her boss on the phone. The boss lady said they could not issue tickets as there was no proof of payment. My son physically showed the lady at the counter his phone with the proof that his bank account had been debited in favour of the ski pass company. She told the boss lady she had seen the proof. The boss lady said she would not see proof of payment into the company’s account until the next day. I said my son had paid to ski that day. She said he could have a refund within a week and if he didn’t get it, he could email them! I said he just wanted to ski that day (last day of holiday), he had paid for it, surely they could issue passes? No, she said, and hung up. So, not a very helpful family-friendly approach. The resort itself is lovely. Maybe don’t use ticket machines and just buy tickets from a human or through your agent! Update- Tues 20 Dec- so far, my son has not yet got a refund.

Absolutely brilliant ski resort for families with a mix of abilities. There are lots of easy blues and greens to develop confidence, whilst there is also excellent more challenging skiing too, although I’d argue that a couple of the black runs are more red than black.
Snow conditions in April were really good, particularly at higher altitudes on the North-facing side of the resort. We loved skiing in the Gondrans sector, as the kids could play in the snow park and there is the Anges mountain restaurant which is ideally located as a base.
My only wish is that there are better and easier access to toilets. There are very few mountain restaurants or toilet facilities higher up.
I also wish there was better access back to Montgenevre from the Italian side. You have to descend down to Claviere to get back, where the snow was dreadful.
Don’t expect state of the art ski lifts and lots of choice of mountain restaurants, but do expect well-groomed big wide pistes and good snow compared to other lower altitude nearby resorts.

Quite nice area but what really disappointed me was the ski lift staff.
They were almost all unfriendly and did not respect the closing time of the lifts. I arrived at 4:17 p.m. in front of a chairlift whose stated closing time was 4:20 p.m. and I was surprised to see that the closed sign was already installed. I tried to talk to the tracker and show him the time but he didn't want to know. He completely looked me up and down and didn't even say a single word to me.
If I pay a package of almost €50 per day it’s to enjoy it until the end. The price of the pass increases every year but the staff makes less and less effort... it was my last day of skiing here and I will keep very bitter memories. For the same price, the big resorts have much more to offer you.

At the risk of being a little out of step with the other comments left here, for my part, I have very good memories of the Montgenèvre slopes. A little context: my last skiing period was already thirty years ago, I thought I had lost everything, and so I took a one and a half hour lesson on the first day with a certain "Estelle", d 'excellent quality! If she recognizes herself, she receives my thanks once again.
So it’s true that it’s expensive. The private lesson, the lift passes, are added to the ski rental, and I'm not talking about accommodation, restaurants or food stores, which must make their margin in a very limited time. Ski vacations are very, very expensive. But as far as I'm concerned, it was worth it. The trails are varied, numerous enough not to get bored after three days. However, the ice on the slopes cost them a point.

We visited as a group of mixed ability skiers, from novice to expert. The slopes were lovely and uncrowded. There were plenty of easy greens and wide blues. Reds and blacks for the more experienced and lots of off piste. We went over the border to Clavier for a day and had some lovely skiing there. Restaurants were good and not over priced and the pool was a good option for an unwind.
Some of the lifts are a bit dated but the lack of queues made up for this.

Spent a week here during half-term. Bit busy on Sunday but fairly quiet during week, compared to other resorts we have been to during French/UK half term. Lots of skiing on well kept runs, but lifts a bit old and slow in places. Went over to linked Italian resorts but busier and poorer snow conditions. Nice quiet town with reasonable selection of bars and shops. It just could have been a bit colder as conditions suffered a few days - but not their fault. An easy drive from UK but go via Frejus tunnel. Free parking is available but away from slopes, though you can get 30 mins free in main car parks for unloading into accommodation etc.

1st week of the Christmas holidays, family stay in Montgenèvre. I used to go to this station when I was young.
And I had a hard time coming back to it.
Little maintenance of the slopes, soft or icy snow...well from time to time.
The station was opened solely to make money. And too bad if the snow is horrible, let's not use the cannons.
Slow lifts...very slow.
80% Italian...remark from a little boy to his father: Are we in Italy, Dad?
With their legendary savoir vivre...
There are many other resorts in the Alps that are infinitely better and cheaper.
Avoid Montgenèvre...

Traveled with Crystal, staying in Le Hameau De Airelles apartments. We are an older couple looking for a short transfer from Turin and a fairly quiet resort with plenty of easy and moderate runs and it did not disappoint. Although it does have some black and difficult reds there too, the greens and blues are generally fairly wide.
Some of the older chair lifts are quite slow but as we had warm, sunny weather all week it wasn't a problem. We didn't venture into the Italian sector as the snow conditions were worse there and skiers were being bused up to Mongenevre.
The south facing sector is best in the morning on sunny days as it can get slushy and cut up by the afternoon. The north side stays good all day. Connection between the two sides could be better & can involve a bit of walking with equipment from one side of the road to the other.
There are only 3 cafes & toilets on the slopes, at the top of Chalvet lift and bottom of Gondrans & Chalmettes lifts, so you need to plan if you want to be near one for coffee or lunch. There are plenty of alternative cafes and restaurants in the village.
The village is mostly of attractive, chalet style buildings & has plenty of shops.
Altogether a lovely resort.

First visit to Montgenevre, following a week in italy. Very little here,no restaurants on hill, not even a cafe at the bottom of the runs, only at cable car station.main street just a row of pizza joints and bars. One supermarket, quite expensive. Our accommodation was terrible which didnt help.ski passes high side for what there is.Never been to benidorm but would imagine it's like this but with snow. Wont be back.

Hello, we will come to ski from sestriere by car. Where is the best place to park to get to the north side of the slopes?

Hi George,
I'm sorry but as we came to Mongenevre with a tour company by coach, I'm not able to give you correct information about car parking.

Hi, we are booked to go to Montgenevre for a week starting 9th March and are considering driving. Is there plenty of parking, can I book in advance and are there any car parks that are cheaper than the rest? Thanks!

Is the link from eagle rock Montgenevre into Claviere open again this year ?
Written 29 December 2017
We went in Feb and no. Italy and France arguing over who pays to deal with safety after avalanches killed some (note they were off piste not the groomed piste). Real shame as it kills getting to Italian side (mega flat sectoins and poling etc)

Bonjour,

How far is it from the Residence club MMv in Le Hameau des Airelles to the ski school. Can you walk down, ski down or is it better to take a car?
What are the nearby runs like please?
Written 2 March 2017
Its about 1/2-3/4 of a mile from the ski school meeting point but there is a free bus service which runs every 15 mins. Don't take a car because the parking situation is awful and expensive.
That hotel is a ski in ski out to the runs at the rear of the village but most of the easier (blue/green) runs are from the front de Neige (Ski school area) and further up the mountain for the red runs although from that hotel you could ski down and across to the Italian side where there are some brilliant red runs as well.
