We hired a double kayak for a two hour paddle by our selves. there was a full briefing of what and where to go and how to make it all work. Then we crossed the road walked down to the wharf and into it. We paddled up to the first major side creek and slowly and in a relaxed fashion... More

Thanks for your review. I really enjoyed my paddle on the lagoon with you both. A lot of our customers find paddling into the forest river channels to be the highlight of their trip. Look forward to seeing you again someday. Kind Regards Richard Saunders More

I had visited Okarito a number of times over the years and every time thought how great it would be to kayak on the Lagoon. Earlier this year my wife and I (neither of us 'spring chickens') decided that we would go to Okarito with the specific objective of taking a guided kayak trip with Okarito Nature Tours. We were... A great place for novice Kayaks as you paddle along the lagoon and into its tributaries. It's a birdwatchers paradise. Note that the lagoon is very susceptible to strong winds so call ahead before making the drive to Okarito. the owner (Chris) does a thorough briefing on the do's and dont's and even provides you with a kayak shirt to... On all postcards from the lagoon you can see beautiful reflection of the mountains and glaciers in the water. We weren't so lucky. On the day we decided to try lagoon kayaking it was cloudy and misty – so, no reflection at all. We went to Okarito without any booking before. Before entering this very small village (no shops, no... More

We had planned a helihike at Franz Josef, but the cloud meant it was cancelled at the last minute, we had a free afternoon, quite disappointed we drove about 20 minutes out to Okarito, a tiny town on the beach. There we found a quaint little coffee shop and while enjoying a drink we learned about kayaking on the lagoon.... More

We spent two nights at Okarito, rented a cosy cottage through Okarito Nature Tours by email beforehand. Didn't see many white herons as because of a spell of dry weather, the lagoon was not draining into the sea and the water was therefore too deep for easy feeding for the herons and other birds . It didn't matter though as... More
