We booked this the night before on the spur of the moment (the joy of the internet). We didn't really know what to expect. We arrived for the 9am trip to find we were the only customers, so Swade gave us a personal 2 hour excursion. There were loads of birds to see and Swade was an eager guide. We... More

We had an awesome experience, the guide was very knowledgable and it was obvious that he sincerely cared about the lagoon and surrounding area. It rained a bit, but that didn't damper our trip. The cuppa and cookie break was a bonus. The office staff (Paula) was extremely helpful and friendly.

This would have been a fabulous wildlife/nature tour; the operator was informative and the boat was travelling along at a nice rate so it was peaceful out on the lagoon but the rain came down and we had to turn back cutting our tour short by 30 minutes if you don't count the time we spent under grotty old tarps... Fascinating Lagoon tour, with an extremely knowledgeable guide. We saw many different birds, including a Heron against a backdrop of snow capped mountains. We even had a coffee and biscuit break. Wonderful experience!

We were lucky enough to be the only two in the tour. Stunning scenery made even more special by a knowledgeable guide.

This is a great tour , do the longer one and enjoy a coffee from boat pilot whilst on the lagoon . We saw lots of bird life- Kotuku , pied shag, Tui, godwits and oystercatchers Worth getting up for and if it's clear you get amazing glimpses of south Alps

Thank you for your review and comments - the 9 AM and 11:30 EcoTours offer a hot drink - our little morning tea spot up in the rainforest is often frequented by a great white heron and tui's and bellbirds often serenade in the trees where we stop - thank you for your appreciation of the tour! Took the early morning tour in marginal weather but worth every minute. The scenery is amazing, a wide variety of birds spotted and we got a better understanding of the habitat. This is an amazing estuary to explore. Highly recommended.
